Which fighter from past 2 decades 140-147would've given Floyd his toughest fight?

I've always thought Winky would give Floyd problems. But the topic says from 140-147 and Winky is a light middle.

 

I really disagree, Ricky Hatton was so challenging for Floyd early because of his pressure. Jesus Chavez, Cotto, and Castillo were pretty relentless in their approach, though obviously Cotto was a more "timed" kind of guy - guys who pick their spots against Floyd get destroyed (Corrales). It also happens though, that unlike most well schooled boxers, Floyd is very cool under pressure and is very tough himself.

rapid, relentless, come forward pressure with broken rhythm that can't be timed or anticipated is how you trouble a boxer.

Picking spots is a natural Marquez thing, and Floyd had the time of his life against him.

 

I see this fight being like Toney v Jirov

All the work coming from PWill (Jirov) and the clean effective counter punching from Mayweather (Toney)

 

Tszyu's timing was deadly - regardless how fast you were. He had every shot in the book - and could deliver those punches hard, fast and accurately.

He toyed with Vernon Forrest in the finals only a few years previously if you remember.

Around the era Floyd struggled with Castillo, then moved up to 140lb - if Tszyu was on the comeback trail and fought Floyd, he'd have beaten him out of the ring and certainly off the scorecards.

People who box, and study boxing know that Tszyu was a terrific thinker and an all-round solid weapon , who came to deliver heavy heavy shots - and he would have done.

Floyd would have been on his bike, no doubt.

 

There are **** load in their prime that would have given him hell - Oscar, Williams, Shane, Forrest, Marg, Cotto, Ike, Kosta, Pacquiao, Whitaker, etc. A few of those would have got the better of him, too.

 

This...Floyd hasn't fought many HOF fighters at their peak, all the above would give him problems

 

I really think Tszyu wouldn't give Floyd that much problem because his attack is super predictable and the power is in the straight right, and he's not quick footed. I could see Floyd playing a Baldomir type strategy and it actually working - Tszyu is the most predictable great fighter I've ever seen. left, left, right, right. left left, right, right. reset left, left, right, right. right. left. left. left. left right- and he's flat footed. Prime Chavez would not have sufferred so at Tszyu's hands.

Margarito - yeah he's slow as **** But with the loaded gloves he may have been able to slow down and hurt Floyd, that's pretty much how he won through his entire career

All are fights that I would have loved to have seen but didn't...

 

Pacquiao of 2008/09 would give Mayweather all he could handle.

 

Forrest due to size and styles.

And as far as this thread, no one beats Floyd from the past 20 years at 147 prime vs prime. Sorry. Who gives him a competitive fight?

Sweet Pea - I think Floyd struggles with southpaws.

 

I dunno man, The Viper got starched by Mayorga and struggled in the rematch. Not saying Mayorga was nothing but trouble back then, but it happened twice. I cannot seem to recall Floyd ever having trouble with a straight right hand (that was Viper's money shot), or even a right uppercut (his other money shot).

Those are my most confident picks. Forrest and Winky are good shouts, though I see him beating Winky the clearest out of those I mentioned.

 

Vernon Forrest as a welter is extremely overrated.

If I had to choose I'd say prime Quartey and Trinidad. Possibly Mosley
