Simple question. And when? For me it was Ali when I was a teenager in the mid 90s. I saw the documentary When We Were Kings and became obsessed with learning all about the great man and his career. That then led to modern boxing at the time, and latching onto Roy Jones and Mike Tyson.
I got into boxing quite late, a lot later than football which was my first love of sport. I'd say it was David Haye, around 2007/2008 time. He was the guy all over our TV screens at the time. The talk around town was his upcoming fights for the cruiserweight titles, moving up to heavy etc. From this I was fortunate enough to catch the final years of Hatton and Calzaghe's careers and then it took off from there.
Shoutout to my late father, ok he was not a famous fighter, but a boxer and life long fan nonetheless, who lived and breathed the sport, so he got me into boxing (well guess i had little choice in the matter, any reluctance on my part would have resulted in me being put up for adoption)
As a kid in the late 80s it was mike Tyson Eubanks v Benn also My Dad was into boxing so I would watch big fights as a little kid. Remember the shock of Douglas beating Mike. It was like someone died
Aussie fighters Jeff Fenech, Lester Ellis and Barry Michael back in the 80’s. I do vaguely remember watching Holmes vs Ali with my dad as a very small boy.
Brothers friend fought Khan for a world title. Well more a friend of a friend Was surprised how basic he was, but his speed was obvious and too much to counter
