so which fighter can you distinctly remember got you into boxing, i mean the fighter who you thought wow, or maybe the fighter who first caught your eye and made you stay up late just to watch him fight, i know mine was lennox lewis?
Bruno, I remember getting up to listen to his first fight with Tyson on the radio. The fight the really got me into it though was Barrera V Morales 1. Still probably the best fight Ive seen.
I have early memories of watching Eubank and Benn in the early 90s. But never became a hardcore fan until 1997 when i starting buying Naz and Lewis PPVs
The Dave Green fight is on YouTube if you want to see how Jones would have done. Leonard took his head off with a left hook, amazing punch.
Funnily enough that was about the time my interest started to waine... Couldn't stand Naz's personality, and as great as Lewis was, a lot of his fights were pretty uninspiring, imo. My heart was with Bruno - as was the majority of the populations when they fought in Cardiff. I like Lewis now - but never took to his personality during his boxing days... With the demise of Tyson - Bruno - Eubank - Benn - I felt a lull...
i got into boxing properly after the danny williams vs tyson fight. im a south london native wat can i say
I didn't really have a fighter than got me into it, I just watched some random fights and had a love of the sport The first guy I really looked at without knowing too much and I knew I'd seen something special was probably Pernell Whitaker.
Nigel benn was my insipration when I started boxing. I met him when I was 12 in Blackpool as my Dad knew a bloke who was pals with him. We had a chat for approx 30mins about my career, he put his hands up and say show us your stuff, I did a few combos on his hands and he said I had what it took to make it. (the usual inspiring stuff you want to hear when your getting into a sport.) He inspired me to do well and I did until I was 16 the wheels came off!!!
Ali, the buildup for the Foreman fight. Also at that time there was a young scouser called John Conteh.
Who British scene of Naz, Eubank, Benn in the early 90s. I was a mainstream fan then. Later on it was Ali and Leonard who began my thirst for all things boxing.
