Witherspoon floored Bruno with a good overhand right.

Hearns was far more accurate with his right hand and set it up often with his clever pawing jab, Shavers wasn`t very good at setting his right hand up with the jab.

Lewis`s right hand became a better weapon when Steward trained him to straighten it, his overhand right was awful v Bruno.

Dwight Muhammad Qawi / Dwight Braxton

    Marciano

    Tyson

    Patterson

    Vicente Saldivar (southpaw)

    Freddie Steele

Inagmer Johansson (was literally his only shot)

Tim Witherspoon also had a good overhand.

I agree Hearns had a better right hand overall. But nobody had what Shavers had in that right imo.

Lewis was mostly about the overhand right, but I see now that his uppercut might have been just as good. Plus, though as mentioned above Lewis ended up with a much more accurate (and therefore devastating) right later in his career, I'd say that was just one of the factors improved with Stewart. He also miraculously gained a pretty damn good left hook (which typically took a big backseat to the overhand, of course).

I think Lewis was a great heavyweight, judging mostly by the aforementioned later career. But too many of his fights just seem to consist of him looking kind of goofy in the way that some very tall people can, awkward, constantly looking for a place to land the right hand.

Most of the ATG heavyweight champions became great pretty early in their careers. Lewis to me peaked in this century.

Witherspoons was different. Very looping with a lot of body in it. Thudding. Almost harder to see since it comes from the side.

Riddick Bowe had a big overhead right. Looked a bit wild at times but it had some power on it when it landed.

Damn , I thought At least one poster, would nominate the the Spinxs jinxs ..... Let's stick with the LT.heavy's Saad Muhammad, Archie Moore, D.Braxton, Monzon at Middleweight, N.Benn, J.Jackson, at jr middle ( but hell, almost any punch he used could be deadly) J.Mugabi, Danny Lopez .... Just some off the top of my head.

Bernard Hopkins has the most effective overhand right because it initiates the clinch

I was trawling this thread looking for Spinks. The punch was that notable it was nicknamed. At 175 it packed enormous power and was utilized superbly. A fight winning punch.

His uppercut was absolutely no joke whatsoever. Too bad he didn't stay in the light heavies and not beat my favorite fighter lol.

Naw, I can't take anything away from what Michael did. He might have been the greatest light heavy ever even if we just abstracted the Holmes win (notice the singular) from the rest of his career. Nobody had beaten Larry before...though the Williams fight showed him ripe for the picking.

Shavers with that one, murderous shot in the 7th round of the second Holmes fight. To me that one's up there with Marciano's Walcott-ruining right.

I still can't believe Holmes got up, and I seriously doubt anyone could have blamed him if he didn't. Another example of what a CHAMPION is made of.

Yes but it was 10 x better at 175.
