to beat roy jones. i know we all agreed that jones is the best h2h fighter ever. but if you had no option but to pick a fighter to beat him in his prime who would it be p4p.
at light heavy-ezzard charles at super middle-gerald mcclellan at middle-sam langford, monzon, hagler
i thought about it but i honestly don't think he had the mobility needed to catch jones. he had a brilliant jab and was likely the most powerful punching light heavy ever but too stationary for jones.
hand to hand (h2h) guys you can do better then this we are talking the same natural weights roy is not a natural light heavy. even so he still beats beats Bob Foster, ezzard charles in his prime at light heavy
Tyson, you are forgetting how powerful roy jones would be if he was a natural heavy weight. how good would roy have been at heavy if that was his weight class he would have size speed and strength advantage against Tyson. he would look like ali with power and more tools
Which is why Spinks would have got the job done instead. Very mobile for a 6'2 Light Heavyweight who hit hard enough to not only knock Jones dead, but a great deal of Light Heavys in history. His awkward delivery is best defended against by a classic boxer with his hands up high rather than someone using his reflexes. Far to unpredictable, Spinks will land and Jones would be shut down. Michael Spinks KO9.
have to agree. along with charles, who despite being "conventional" at light heavy is probably the greatest at that weight ever, spinks had the best chance to take him out glad we haven't heard from rico yet-"a stiff breeze takes out china chin jones..." :-(
At first, I didn't know what you meant by h2h...I was gonna say Tarver, because I think he had Roy's number, regardless of if Roy was in his prime or not. But Roy did win the first fight because Tarver couldn't **** with him in the middle of the ring, so come to think of it...maybe he would have thoroughly beat Tarver in his prime...that's a whole other debate, though. I don't like comparing old fighters to these present day fighters, because the fighters of today have better nutrition, better training, and better techniques, so none of the old fighters others mentioned could beat Jones h2h in his prime. This is tough...I'd have to think on this one.
A prime RJJ is a nightmare for pretty much anyone in the history of the sport. World class speed, combos, reflexes, footwork, footspeed, power. He was a terror in his prime. I would pick very few fighters H2H over him.
