Which Fighter is the most important to the Sport

So how is Wlad important if he's fighting in a division that you claim no one is interested? Wlad is big in Eastern Europe, that's it. To be truly important in this sport, you have to be big in the States. Most casual fans I know just know Klitscho as the big Russian. The only fighters that alot of casual fans know is Holyfield, Roy Jones, Mayweather, and De La Hoya.

 

New fans? All he's doing is getting SOME of Trinidads fans interested again.

 

No, Pac does not have the most fans. He's big in the Filipines but that's it. The Filipines is a great country, but you cannot be the most important fighter in the sport with jus the backing of the Filipines

 

You can talk PPV all you want at the end of the day Floyd is the flagship fighter and the main representitive of the sport (if we are only talking active fighters).

 

De La Hoya or Mayweather couse they are the most famous at the moment and can draw the largest amount of viewers

 

Big Reg PAC is popular in the States and in Canada, relatively speaking (because lets face it Boxing aint where even Golf is at this point).

When the Undertaker walks you into the ring, you're known..Plus the 80 million or so fans in the Philippines. Thats 1/3 of the U.S. Population already:deal

pac is also attracting a lot of new Asian fans to the sport. boxing is still not that big in Asia so pac is very impt in promoting the sport in this part of the world. asia has the largest population of all the continents so when pac attracts new fans from this region then the better it is for the sport.

 

DLH/Mayweather did over 2 million buys actually. If only 1/4 of the people who watched that fight were satisfied, that would still represent almost double the amount of people that watched Pac's last fight(in the states). Pac and Wlad are good fighters, but they're not as important as Floyd or Oscar.

 

Ricky Hatton is right up their as well. How many other fighters out there could attract the support he is getting for this fight in December?

10 to 15,000 of us are coming over for the fight in December from the UK. Most of us don't even have a ticket (me included:|)

Especially with it so close to Christmas, not many boxers can attract that kind of following.

50 Cent walked Floyd into the ring, he's more popular than the Undertaker. The even if Pac had 80 million fans in the Philippines, that's still only 1/4 the U.S population.

boxing may be centered in the US but for the sport to survive, it has to tap into new markets. this is where pac comes in attracting new fans in a region where the sport isn't that big yet, asia. and we all know that asia has the biggest population so the potential for boxing to grow by tapping into this market is enourmous.

 

Yes but 280 million in the states couldnt care less about Boxing. 50 million watches in the Philippines.
