Which fighter went from 'hot' to 'shot "in a short period of time?

As usual scartissue, a great post and very interesting and informative. Strange how a fighter like Smith can end up like that. One minute the champ then loss after loss.

Thanks, Fergy, and I just thought of another one while writing. Without looking at boxrec, I recall a kid who was really hot stuff on ESPN named Dana Roston. Man, he was just a prospect but he thought he was the second coming. His mouth was flapping and ESPN was eating it up. He was matched with this tough clubfighter named Rocky Garcia (I think) and Roston won every round and started screaming, "I'm tired of fighting this s**t" Well, Karma can be brutal, because I don't think he won another fight.

The preparation for the Marlon Starling fight in '89 took a massive amount of preparation, and the loss that followed takes a hell of a lot out of you. The loss to Breland was a bit of a turning point. At 30 years old you struggle to make the weight, and that itself can drain you however fit you are.

I can imagine raga. It was tough to see honeyghan go like that. I watched all his title fights and cheered him on. I loved his fighting style, his attitude in the ring. He was the first brit imo to really show the yank s we could kick there ass and keep doing it.

Very much so. In fact probably the shortest path from hot to shot in history.

Lol good story again scartissue. Can believe there's a few guys out there doing that. Shouting the mouth off and then getting there ass kicked.

You could include a few heavy weight contender s in the list to. Tyrell biggs was a very hot prospect and even as much as in been Classed as the ali to tyson s frazier. He lost to tyson then became a name for the up and coming young guns.

On the subject of derailed prospects I can think of Simon Brown putting a stopper in the progress of Shawn O'Sullivan in about 3 rounds. The Olympic silver medalist never regained his footing after that. The real funny one I remember though was a kid from Venezuela named Jose 'The Threat' Baret, a real KO sensation that everyone was talking about until they matched him with Marlon Starling. Starling took him out in about 4 rounds and the magazines were then calling him Jose 'Not Yet' Baret or Jose 'No Sweat' Baret. Tailspinned after that.
