Agree. Can't really be anything like it. Some drop from being a HW titleist and seemingly unbeatable at LHW to being owned by Tarver.

Cuevas won the title and defended it 12 times over 4 years. SRL was supposed to fight him in Spring '80, but SRL decided to fight the smaller "lightweight" named Roberto Duran, forcing Cuevas to fight the much bigger Hearns in his hometown of Detroit.

    David Price.

Was a world beater then ran into Tony Thompson and it was like he was shot overnight...

Zab Judah completely exposed Vernon Paris.
Duran did the same to Davey Moore.
David Reid couldn't get it together after Trinidad.

These guys might have never had it to begin with.

An interesting entry in this category to me is Jake LaMotta.

He won the middleweight title after a long quest, lost a non-title (slightly over-the-weight) bout next time out, won three non-title tuneups, defended the crown twice and then was stopped by Robinson in the St. Valentines Day Massacre.

Afer that, he went 0-3-1 in his next four fights.

He was never a relevant contender again.

So after winning the title, he won 5 of his next 10 fights. Even his second defense was a last-round knockout of Laurent Dauthuille in a fight where Jake was hopelessly behind on the cards.

You can argue (reasonably) that Jake's title-winning effort was against an injured Marcel Cerdan, so it's difficult to gauge just how good he was at that point and how much he had left, but the air started coming out of the tires immediately after he finally reached the middleweight summit.
