    Fedor Emelianenko

MMA obviously, but the clearest inflection point i've ever seen or heard of

a dominant HW in MMA for a decade or so.

    2000 - 2010

Fedor had a single loss on his record, which occurred 10 years prior (a doctor's stoppage in the first 20 seconds of the first round, probably due to an injury sustained from a prior fight earlier that same day)

10 consecutive wins over six years by stoppage (KO or submission)

    June 2010

loses to (underdog) Fabrico Werdrum by submission one minute into Rd 1 (Werdrum lost his next fight to Alistair Overeem)

this loss was followed by two more losses, (total of three consecutive losses) to Antonio Silva and Dan Henderson, respectively. Like the Werdrum fight, both were fairly one-sided contests against.

and like the Werdrum fight, Fedor was the heavy favorite in both of these fights.

Nigel Benn went from his career best performance against G-Man to getting shut out by Sugar Boy Malinga within a year.

There was a fighter I always remembered named Victor Paz from South America who had this unbelievably hot record. I never saw him fight but I recall him fighting for the jr. lightweight title and then taking a 180 after that fight. So I checked him out on boxrec and he was actually 56-1-1 going into his title shot - got stopped against a Korean for the vacant title - and then went 16-45-4 with 3 no contests the remainder of his career. How is that for going hot to shot?

The question was asked after quite a few of Saad's fights prior to Braxton how much longer could he keep taking such punishment. His fights were wars and at times he looked down and out before coming roaring back to stop people. Everyone knew it had to catch up with him at some point. Many were waiting for him to come roaring back against Braxton, but a combination of too many wars and Braxtons not inconsiderable ability finally caught up with him. Braxton always would have been an awkward opponent with what he brought to the table.

    LaMotta is a good shout.

He was really struggling to make weight at that point, and after he finally got his shot and won the title I don't think he had the dedication to make weight properly anymore. I've read here I think that Robinson factored in Jake being weight-drained in his fight plan. And you can see him just gas there towards the end.

Yeah Lamotta is a good choice like you guys have said. I think he was just a contender for too long. It was something like 7 or 8 years of being ranked in the top 10 before he even got a shot. I'm sure it gets discouraging.

Good one scartissue. Now that s a perfect example. Wonder how many times that s actually happened, where a guy s started out with a great record, looking the business then bang! He suffers a loss and then he ends up losing fight after fight. A pretty painful way to try and capture past glory s.

Its disgusting when you actually look at it. To keep chipping away hoping for a title shot and getting no where.

I get pissed off when I think of Barry s story. He was at the top, young and probably had a good few year s and fight s left in him. Then he goes to America, took on Stevie boy in the scorching heat, lost the title and then he had about another 4 fight s before calling it a day. Just so frustrating to think what might have been. But this is a clear example of hot to shot unfortunately. Barry was one of my faves and I always get annoyed when think of barney Eastwood lol.

As soon as I read the title of this thread, Donald Curry came to mind.
