Riddick Bowe had a habbit of being lazy. They brought this up before the first Golota fight and he responded by saying, "why should I train hard to fight a bum?". Hopkins is always in shape and always prepared.

Towards the end of his career, Prince Naz thought all he had to do was turn up to the fight. His natural talent allowed him to get away with it on most occasions, but it was only a matter of time before he would pay for it.

James Toney was a another who just didn't give a ****.

As for great preperation, Bernard Hopkins is known for being a no nonsense guy in a training camp.

Tremendous preparation = Calzaghe, Hopkins, Marciano, Hagler, Leonard, Pacq, Mayweather, Tunney, Abraham, Patterson, Ali, Frazier, Pavlik,

Less than tremendous = Most current heavyweights except Klitschkos.

Guys like Marvin Hagler, Evander Holyfield, Floyd Mayweather, Shane Mosley, the Klitschkos, and Bernard Hopkins are known for being dedicated gym rats.

James Toney definitely does enough sparring, but most likely lacks the discipline in other areas of preparation.

How about Kirk Johnson? A year after losing a title bout to John Ruiz, he got a title eliminator against Vitali Klitschko. He weighed in at 260, 16 pounds higher than his previous career high.:-(

Pacquiao is another gym rat. He doesn't blow up between fights, works his ass off, and always shows up in tip top shape. Ditto for J.M Marquez. Hatton works hard in the gym. However, if he didn't blow up so much he wouldn't have to spend so much time losing weight during camp instead of working on strategy. He didn't look prepared at all against Pacquiao.

Mayweather has probably the best, followed immediately by Pacquiao and Hopkins. Then going down from there I would probably say Jeff Lacy just because of his build, insanely muscle bound for a 168 lbs fighter.

Some of the worst I have heard have been James Toney, he only spars and does no road work, though that apparently has changed. Ricardo Mayorga smokes and drinks so that is that. Fernado Vargas towards the end of his career physically looked like ****, though he had a busted disk in his back that needed to be surgically fixed. And Ricky Hatton, well he wasn't doing himself any favors by going up to 200lbs and trying to cut 60 lbs of weight, especially when he tried to step up in competition against Mayweather and Pacquiao.

Young Tyson up until the Spinks fight = great training
Every Tyson fight after that= poor training!

and you have to remember training just isn't physical, sometimes you can't SEE poor training.

Agreed. I think Lacy had pretty poor preparation against Calzaghe, didn't he say after the fight he thought he would just go in and KO Calzaghe really quickly and that he needed to work on his boxing skills?

As said by others Mayweather, Pacquiao, Hopkins, Holyfield have great preparation.

Worst: Arreola, James Toney, and in general throughout his career I thought he was pretty well prepared but Kessler's preparation for Ward was disastrous.

Duran is just a guy who gets excuses for never training when he lost to the legends. When he beat the mediocre guys he decided to train in those fights. The excuses for Duran have always been unbelievable and ridiculous. As though Ray Leonard's movement or Thomas Hearns right hand have nothing to do with Roberto losing.
