Honesty I didn't notice! Lewis is not a good commentator though. Probably why HBO got rid of him years back!
I gained a lot of respect for GGG lately.. During his reign I was very critical of the “great opposition” but recently my perspective has changed. Even tho his opposition was bad he clearly showed that he was levels above his opponents.. I’ve watched Danny Jacobs struggle with Sulecki and Arias(Both JMW at the time).. Charlo struggle with Korobov and look bad vs Adams, BJS look horrible vs Eubank, Monroe, Arkov.. Andrade fail to impress vs Walter K, Arkov, and Keeler.. All these opponents I just listed would have been blasted by GGG in 6 rds or less during his reign and that shows me he’s on another level and Canelo strategically ages him out..
I dislike fighters with below average punch resistance or sub KO 40% and I hate ones with glass jaws and sub KO 30%.
I used to hate Joe Calzaghe when he fought no name fighters only but after he beat big name fighters like Lacy, Hopkins, and Roy Jones, I started to respect him. He beat the legends to become the legend.
I really disliked Vic (dunno if he's been mentioned) on his fearsome undefeated run. I mistook his fiercely competitive personality for crass obnoxiousness and brainless spite. Did that guy ever win my admiration. The way he bounced back from the kind of brutal upset defeat that could shatter a lot of on top fighters' confidence and spell a downward slide, absolutely dominating and crushing a guy, in Christian Mijares, who was in a lot of peoples' P4P conversations at the time, along with all his subsequent minor bouncebacks and stubborn refusals to accept irrelevance (including coming insanely close to avenging that Donaire L), really made him one of the fighters whom I remember most fondly from that epoch (the Floyd/Pac generation, if you like). Seemed to be a really disciplined professional out of the ring, too, as much as I could tell. When he was done, he really was toast, but he hung in there for a good time longer than he probably should've been able to on account of pure doggedness and character.
I disliked Fury for a while. I was happy that he dethroned Wlad and thought that we will finally see a new champion (a entertaining one at that). Then he was banned for PED use and just lost the plot with drugs and drinking. I was disappointed that he never gave Wlad the rematch (due to injury) After the first Wilder fight I gained respect back for him. Lost a bit when he chose to fight Schwarz and Wallin instead of an immediate rematch with Wilder But after that Wilder 2 performance, I respect him fully for beating Wilder the way he did.
Fury, at the beginning of his career I thought he was a total hypejob glassjaw. I also didn't like his character/flamboyance, he just annoyed me. Took me until after the first Wilder fight that I started to respect him and became kind of a fan to be honest. Even his interviews/antics are entertaining to me now.
I used to dislike Tyson Fury, but after his masterful performance against Deontay Wilder on February 22, he has my respect.
Was annoyed by Canelo for a moment here and there, but now all respect. Will forever be annoyed with Floyd he could have been Sweet P level, easily it was all there mind and body, he just played it safe and rang the cash register instead. I guess I can respect that, but only for what it is
Good on you, Perky. Not so much yourself, as I know (from our shared time on a platform that is now defunct) that you had always been consistent on Fury up until his most recent victory, but it's amusing to note how many fans have gone back and forth and back again on him. He perplexes and mind-**** fans as much as he does opponents.
Tell you a boxer I've gone the other way on. Smoking Toe. It's not even the loss to Klitschko and the toe excuse necessarily that made me not like him. He's just a massive idiot. I find it hilarious that he's been converted into a Fury fanboy after Fury's triumphant beatdown of Deontay Wilder whereas before the fight he swore up and down that Fury wasn't dangerous enough to knock out Wilder. If Fury wasn't that dangerous David, then why did you avoid fighting him?
