I remember at the time of the Benitez fight the commentators made a point of noting that Duran had trained seriously and intensively in relative isolation over a 16 week (?) period leading in.

I also remember Duran shaking his arms several times during the fight as if they had become unduly weary/fatigued.

But then, part or full explanation for that might’ve been the nice body work Benitez had been executing throughout the fight.

All in all, Duran simply got beat by the better man on the day, just IMO.

Did Duran act like a ***** at the end of the fight, refusing to an accept Benitez’s hug - I think he did but I’m not 100%.

 

Yeah I think he did do that. I can’t remember what book I read it in but Duran trained on a prison island or something for Benitez but he claimed the conditions were bad and he wasn’t in shape. He’s clearly in shape, Benitez was just faster than him and more comfortable at the weight

Yeah, it's completely insane to think that his fans were backing him for wanting to skip VADA/USADA. There was also the part about a blood test weakening him too much before a fight.

 

No joke but the worst excuse I have ever heard for the Morales fight was that some actually believe it was a conspiracy by Top Rank for the rematch. Where Bob Arum secretly had a meeting with his rising star in secret, to not train with Freddie for weeks before the fight, so he can lose in a convincing manner to hype up the rematch. I kid you not some Filipinos that I know legitimately believe this lmfao.
