Dagge was the second world champ to come out of Germany. Jmw champ in the 70s. Wasn´t much liked in Germany though due to him coming of a shady background and hanging around pimps and stuff. Never was as popular as Schmeling or Scholz before him. He loved the booze, painpills and women. During training camp he would often vanish for days and then come back one day drunk, high and sh*tfaced. He was also quite witty and self-ironic. When asked about Schmeling and how he rated himself compared to him he answered: "Well, at least I won the title while standing on my feet." He won the title of highly regarded Elija Obed who he stopped and ruined. Dagge drove his trainer nuts with his habbit of giving the early rounds away and actually letting his opponents beat them up. When he had enough he would up the pace and return the favour for the rest of the fight. He was quite tough. More of a brawler than a boxer with good but not great power. He also beat an old Griffith. He would lose his title short after to some Italian guy. His career was cut short by his alcohol and pill abuse. He would alter make a failed comeback. In the 90s he was the trainer of Michaelchewski but got fired after he trained him not only in boxing but also in boozin and whoring around. He died a few years later - shortly after a successful therapy - of cancer, broke. Sauerland and DM payed for his funeral and were amongst the handful of people attending his funeral. His belt and some pictures can actually be seen in St. Pauli, Hamburg, in the bar called "Ritze" which was his favourite bar. :thumbsup

They avoided each other. RJJ didn´t want to leave the US, beeing afraid of gettin´screwed like in the olympics, and DM didn´t want to go to the US since he earned in Germany very well while he would have to start from the bottom again in the US. Shame it didn´t happen. DM would have posed all kinds of problems for Jones with his pressure, power, jab and toughness. My money would still have been on Roy.

I think it was Raul Rojas that Mando Ramos was fighting and the two of them were good buddies.

Rojas had told the newspapermen that he had stopped his partying ways and had been training hard for his upcoming fight with Ramos, whilst Ramos kept partying.

When the newspapermen asked Ramos about this he laughed and said Rojas was talking crap, as he had Rojas had been out the night before getting drunk.

Ramos also had to pull out of a fight with Ken Buchanan due to catching an STI

John Conteh Went from one extreme - a ferocious trainer under taskmaster George Francis, even swimming in freezing lakes (surpentine ?) in the dead of winter, a marvellous athelete, After winning the title turned into a Champagne fueled Playboy, Nightclubbing, car accidents causing hand injuries, managerial discontent, and Family interference all played there part in the early erosion of a wonderful natural talent.
