In your time being a boxing fan (assuming you've been one a while), you've undoubtedly seen shifts in opinion of various fighters or historical happenings through time. Which among these do you think have suffered the most or have conversely had their stock raised over time for no apparent reason other than the fickle passing of time?

One that stands out for me is that when recounted now among some here, Leonard-Hagler in retrospect seems to be made out to be an almost pick-em affair at the time. Having been a rabid fan that ate up everything about boxing at that time, I remember no such feeling then. At all. Hagler was expected to rip his head off.

It's a ploy Leonard-haters use to discredit the win, that's of course obvious, but those around at the time know better.

    Any others?

Ali and Tyson fans are biggest apologists out there.

Tyson is actually completely underrated in this particular forum.

Ok so some things I see here at the moment and again this is my opinion.
Duran has seemed to turned into an above average fighter.
Holmes after getting his just due respect is also seen as just an above average fighter.
These two things are mind boggling.
Fraziers stock has unfairly dropped. Way off base here.
Marciano Holy and Tyson seem to be close to invincible at this point. SMH.
Most of my focus is on HW as that's what 85% of classic has seemed to have turned into for the most part.
Again my opinion. Not getting into it just giving my opinion as asked.

Really I've heard a lot of excuses from Tyson fans. Like Tyson was robbed against Douglas. Holyfield was heatbutting against Tyson. Tyson used elbowing against Biggs,Ruddock and others. He also bit McBride's nipple in his last fight.
Was Tyson an ATG yes but his was an ATG in a very weak heavyweight division with a blown up light heavyweight like Spinks as the champion.

Walcott & Charles' standing has risen considerably.30/ 25 years ago they were thought of as average heavyweights. Joe Brown's standing seems to have dropped nearly off the charts. In his hey day and into the early70's, he had a lot of respect as a fine champ ,now he gets overlooked.
Sanchez stock has steadily risen imo,he was always thought of as a very capable champ ,with his untimely death his legend has grown .

Marciano, Frazier, Dempsey, etc can't win a h2h matchup nowadays for some reason

Lennox Lewis is the most benefitted in h2h matchups

I've seen some absolute BS about SRR and how he was ducking everyone. I don't think that holds any water at all. He's the greatest but just seems like there's no criteria which someone can't attempt to pull a fighter down if they choose.

Henry Armstrong was in almost everybody's top 2 or 3 fighters of all time 25 years ago. Now it's Greb and Langford. Nothing wrong with those guys moving up but Armstrong didn't suddenly get worse!

Armstrong is still ranked by most people in the top 3 of all time. I have him no.2 for instance.

It’s also nothing to do with Armstrong getting ‘worse’. It’s more to do with more and more research being done on the old timers and the modern reappraisal of Charles’ quality, which was not only long overdue but a perfect example for this thread.

On the flip side we now realise that Khaosai Galaxy wasn’t half as great as The Ring was desperate for us to believe in the 80’s and early 90’s.

Primo Carnera has somehow managed to be legitimized

Harry Greb has been taking a beating

I have tried to beat up on Jim Jeffries status....not the man per sey it isn't his fault for not having good big heavyweights but I can't see him jumping from life and death fights-slugfists against blown up middleweights and Ltheavies but ehhhhh

Pryor has gained a status way beyond his competition resume.... Iwill co to ue to work on it until rational assessment perseveres. Though he too showed chin issues...had he fought Duran or Rosario it would have been shown early or often.....he always had one with casual fans because of his hyping himself but not so much with fighters or trainers....we all knew there was a lot of hype mostly self hype...kind of like Conor McGregor

Fans seemed to have forgotten Duran from the 70`s and only care about what happened against Ray Leonard onwards, and it`s the same thing about Ray standing in front of Duran making an error and then making up for it in the rematch, Palomino image has sunk and he`s just a solid win for Duran and RAay is put above Duran because of what Benitez did, then the Hearns KO gets flung in.
