Which fighters have developed power later in their careers?

Whenever there is a match up between two fighters, fight fans never take into account the age of the two boxers. Other than Tyson who matured very early and basically had the same face at 15 as he did when he was 35, I believe most young prospects don't have that power when in their first few fights.

So to test this hypothesis, does anyone have evidence of any boxers that grew into power punchers or just increased their punching strength?

Maybe larger weight classes are better to use since smaller weight classes normally have guys like Mayweather who are smaller than most of their opponents later in their careers.

My first pick would be Marquez that KOed Pacquiao even though he was working with memo.

P.S. I hope Vadejo improves his power as he hits his prime at 28/29 years

Maravilla Martinez's power increased with his move up to Middleweight.

Yeah that's a really good example. He couldn't even hurt Magarito at Welterweight and you cant tell me Mosley is a harder puncher than Maravilla for taking out Magarito in that fashion.

Margarito had been boxing since he was 6 years old, and professionally since he was 16, whereas Sergio had just taken up the sport after cycling and turned pro at 22, the Margarito match happened when he was 24, it was just a case of a gap in experience for Martinez at the time, and at that point he hadn't honed and perfected his RJJesque ambush style. A prime Martinez would have ripped Tony to pieces, it would have been nastier than the Pavlik performance. As far as Mosley goes, he would have always probably outpointed Margarito, but Margarito was.... shall we say, really distracted that night. Which I think had more to do with the stoppage than anything.

Martinez was a completely different fighter by the time he demolished Williams in the rematch.
He learned to pick his shots and sat down more on his punches.

Also Anselmo Moreno, in his brilliant rematch with Yamanaka, showed that he can throw with power.

While I agree with you on this one, because I said on here that Povetkin was on PED's right after the Takam victory, and was unrelenting about it, but why do you have to sully every thread with your anti-EE racial agenda. This is a nice wholesome thread with a guy asking an honest question, it doesn't need to be turned into a racial flame war. Keep that **** on the more incendiary threads.

A lot of decisions in the past now he's running a 6 KO streak despite stepping up in competition.

Marquez is a bad example, he has always had Ko power and actually has the same or close to the KO percentage as Pacquiao. Theres a reason his nickname is dinamita

Do you feel better now after getting that outburst out of your system? Look man, I know if I ban you, you'll just come back with another alt, so try working with me here, you're a racist, Kevin Willis is a racist, there's a shitton of racists on this site. Just try to be civil and somewhat cordial with each other, clearly you all don't like each other, but it doesn't take that much self control to refrain from calling each other thinly veiled racial epithets does it? Or like with you, every single solitary post has some vaguely racial undercurrent, just chill a little, rein it in and talk boxing with people. Not everything has to come down to a war does it? And that goes for the rest of you racists on here.

Okay that's about all the Gandhi I have in me for this month.:D
