Waited too much for what? He was p4p nr1 and considered virtually unbeatable for a decade, broke records and lost only once by DQ in 50 fights.
Sounds like he did everything just fine other than not retiring at the right time.

The first fight I watched was in 1980 when Hagler beat Alan Minter, Jones would have ducked Hagler because he too was a good counter puncher.

Show me where is said that pundits of backthen were better.
Some of the studies on youtube are great. Lee Wylie for example.
The one you posted was just utter **** and I'm not the only one who thinks that.

Or maybe they ducked him. What does that have to do with Loma being a great fighter but not being the best counterpuncher of all time. That's just insane childish hype.

I'm getting tired of arguing with you it's not going anywhere you keep coming up with more ridiculous statements

You forgot Sweet Pea. He was just a thing of beauty in the ring. I really wish i appreciated him more when he was active. I was biased young and dumb and missed out on his greatness.

Did you actually see RJjr? At 160lbs that dude was a problem for anyone whos ever stepped in the ring. He fought Bhop and James Toney in their primes and beat them both pretty convincingly.

Hopkins learned how to fight much better years after his fight with Roy and made Roy look awful by controlling the space between the two of them, it meant Roy couldn`t really land much and Toney was awful against Roy.

Loma is not exactly a counter-puncher. It's true that he is an outboxer and he knows to counter very well, but what he does the most is setting traps for opponent and capitalise on that. He doesn't wait for opportunity, he creates them. This is why it looks like he knows when or where to hit next, because he anticipates it. It's not 'counter-punching instinct' that plays here.

Back to the topic, if I have to choose one counter-puncher expert that is in the same level or probably better in this department, probably JM Marquez. He has the instinct and hugely vast experience to support it.
