I know people say Mike fought like dempsey.. Everyone knows he studied many greats..Which do you feel he learned most from? Or what signature movements do you feel he crafted his style upon from the fighters he watched??

Tyson was influenced most by D'Amato, thus the most famous fighter he took most from style wise, was Floyd Patterson.

Jack Dempsey, Floyd Patterson, and a little bit of Joe Louis all come out when you see a Tyson fight.

Yeah, hearing from Mike and D'Amato it seems like Dempsy and Patterson were the main ones. The peekaboo style.

I'm surprised no one's mention Rocky Marciano. I see at least a few similarities there.

Duran was Tyson's idol, and they shared many facets.

Both often beat their opponents before they stepped in the ring, with their physical intimidation tactics at the weigh in/photo call. Both had sublime head movement, slipping punches with ease, rarely getting caught flush, both were true come forward warriors, who literally had to pulled off their opponents at times, they shared a true animal killer instinct. They also shared a love for women and the high life that landed them in the **** in later years..............

Since Floyd Patterson and Mike Tyson were both developed by Cus DaMatto we could argue that Tyson is efectively the Patterson upgrade.

I would vote for Dempsey, too. Frazier may have had some influence. Both guys had punching power and were competent at bobbing and weaving ( plus great left hook).

Duran is certainly interesting in this thread. Especially, when Duran defeated Leonard in Montreal 1980. Tyson and Duran had a very tough background.
