Maybe Hagler, Who might have had an influence on a young Tyson. No nonsense, no frills. Just Destruct & destroy. as was Haglers motto.

Although Frazier and Tyson use a similar fighting technique ie fighting from a crouch and bobbing and weaving Frazier uses a cross arm defence which affects the way he fights, where Tyson uses the peek a boo style. Tua with his cross arm defence and great left hook look more like Frazier to me and Tua's triple left hook is amazing.

I see each of these fighters in Tyson. He presses an attack like Dempsey, throws combinations like Louis, crouches like Frazier, uses Floyd Patterson's peekaboo stance, and has the power of Sonny Liston. :happy

If you watch another of D'amatos fighters , Jose Torres, and his head motion , its very very similar.. Mike loved to powerpunch an awful lot more than the rest of the peek aboo fighters of yester year, he did like Dempsey, but i see a whole lot of relentless punching from a crouched stance , sterio typical of a young Frazier but with better defense .. Mike was nuts about men like Henry Armstrong and Mickey Walker.. He loved Jack Johnsons arrogance too, it all went towards moulding him... he was a student of the greats..

The heavyweight who Tyson idolized the most was Jack Dempsey.

He was a was a massive Duran fan.

I'll be back on this thread to give quotes from Tyson on a few fighters. Hagler, Frazier, Greb, Flowers, Duran, etc.

That's how I see it, Cus D'amato was the biggest influence on Tyson ,and since he trained and moulded Patterson ,it is Floyd's peek aboo and somewhat square on stance we see in Tyson. The only similarities I see with Dempsey were the haircut ,lack of socks and robe.
