" Know thy enemy and know thyself and your chances for victory increase exponentially " Which fighters knew themselves the best? It seems like most of the great champions know their body very well.
I think Roy Jones knew himself fairly well, or was at least confident that he did. I remember a number of years ago, he fought a bout on HBO where he had a microphone placed in his shorts to try and amplify the punches that were thrown and landed. The experiment never worked real well, but he was willing to try something new. Jones fought the very best of his era, and moved up to greater weight classes to fight other champions often. He was 33 years old when he fought WBA HW titlist John Ruiz, then quickley dropped 20 LBS of weight in something like 6 months to face top rater Antonio Tarver. I don't know if Jones knew his body better than anyone, but he certainly knew it well, and if nothing else, had great confidence in his abilities.....By the way, I think he still does.
