I'm not sure about Langford really being there. Most people just rank Langford high and talk about his amazing resume, not necessarily the Johnson fight.

Either Klitschko or Pryor. Both guys had their chances. Klitschko had his chance though the first time. And Pryor was the one who turned down the Leonard fight, not the other way around.

I think Bowe-Lewis would have been a great fight, however, Lewis accomplishments are sufficiently strong that the Bowe fight not happening ain't a major issue.

From a Brit and less historic perspective I'd have to say Junior Witter. Though a solid world level fighter, the only time he has ever rates a mention from fans is in the context of being that guy who was always banging on about Ricky Hatton. Some Hatton haters built Witter up to be some kind of Mayweather/Whitaker hybrid with Hearns type power when he was in the process of KOing 14 straight cab drivers!

How about Riddick Bowe for dodging Lennox Lewis and not getting KO'd by him again.

    Not quite.

The point is Bowe never gained any mileage from not fighting Lewis. On the contrary he caught quite some flak for.

Lewis on the other hand (remember what this thread is about) gained alot of mileage from the fight not happening. Because if he lost in 1993 and never got a rematch. You would not think of him in the same way therefore his legacy and mystique remains strong. Bowe is not given the benefit of the doubt and therefore his mystique suffered because of it.

    Not quite.

Mayweather is considered the favorite to win the fight. So this fight not happening will be a stain on his resume should it not happen.

Pacquiao is the perceived threat. Considering what he accomplished he has a good chance of beating Mayweather but he remains the underdog.

If this fight doesn't happen Mayweather's legacy will suffer more than Pacquaio's.

Look Riddick Bowe. He would have been favored to beat Lewis in 1993 but the fight never happened and as a result he's caught flak for it. Meanwhile Lewis seems to enjoy the benefit of the doubt despite the fact that Bowe could have very well beaten him.

Beside the idea is to pick within the choices because Mayweather Pacquiao is still a possibility.

Floyd dodged a bullet when he ducked Matthew "Magic" Hatton.

Vitali, after the stoppage and being up on the cards, a rematch loss would have been a disaster.

Theres been a few I can think of

Roy Jones was lucky not to have fought D Michalczewski as Michalczewski would have finished him

Bernard Hopkins was right to avoid Calzaghe and wait till Calzaghe was coming up in weight as Calzaghe of 02 would have destroyed Hopkins

Tavoris Cloud was right to pull out of fighting Zsolt Erdei or Cloud would now be considered a hype job rather than a world champ

Paul Williams is saving his rubbish legacy (at this time) by avoiding Serhiy Dzinziruk

Riddick Bowe saved his American HW legacy by avoiding L Lewis

Hope this helps to give a true insight

I voted Pryor not facing SRL but I almost voted Sanchez vs Arguello.

For the record, I DO think both Pryor & Sanchez would have lost those bouts but I think Sanchez had the better chance to pull the upset... no way Pryor is beating a prime Ray Leonard IMO, no fkn way :nono

Some other fights I didnt mention

Jones Jnr was right to avoid Benn, Collins and Eubank, he would have lost to prime Eubank and Benn and might have beaten Collins but would have been ruined.

Dawson was right to move up to LHW away from SMW or else he would have been pushed into fighting SMW champ Calzaghe

Tarver was right to avoid Z Erdei or else he would have been humiliated.

Pavlik was right to avoid a KO defeat to the limited Arthur Abraham
