Which fighter's legacy has benefited most from a fight not happening?

Nino Valdes was supposed to fight Marciano in September 1955, but lost to Archie Moore in May. So Archie Moore forced Marciano to fight him instead. Valdes didn't deserve a title shot anyway. He had already lost 12 fights out of not even 40.

But that is my point exactly.

Vitaly was able to gain considerable mileage from the second fight not happening. The scenario is, if Vitaly lost the 2nd time around how would we look at him?

    I'd say considerably different.

Lennox won a fight on his off night which is beside the point but more importantly his legacy isn't tarnished by not fighting Vitaly again.

DM's gained considerable mileage from that fight not happening. If he lost to Roy Jones Jr. Public perception would have changed considerably. Roy had a life outside of DM.

This isn't very relevant because Bernard was a middleweight Champion. I don't recall Calzaghe ever being at 160. So the point is that Joe was never on Bernard's radar back then. It was never talked about as a fight and the fights that B-Hop wanted were Jones, Trinidad, De la Hoya and to reach 20 defenses at MW. He had no interest in going up in weight at that point.

Paul Williams is still very current. Can't assess current fighters who are still in their physical prime, things can easily change.

Other way around. You have to remember back in 1993 Lennox Lewis was a threat to Bowe but Riddick would still have been a spot on favorite. If Bowe beat Lewis then (and in 1993 that was very possible) we would look at Lennox differently. The way we respect Lewis as a fighter, the way we look at his legacy today would have been greatly damaged if he lost to Riddick Bowe which is why I put the order that way.

    Thanks.

Calslappy benefited from the way his career was handled, but it has hurt him in the long run.

    I voted Vitali.

But I'd also say Marquez' legacy has also been enhanced due to the Marquez v Pacquiao 3 bout not happening. I wouldn't say his legacy has been greatly enhanced due to this, but I'd say it has definitely effected it.

Did you even read the thread? Or are you just posting in every thread I post in?

My post implies that Pacquiao (with his improvement over the years) probably would have beaten Marquez in a third bout...thus enhancing Marquez's legacy because it didn't happen. ******.

Really? It was his decision not to fight if I'm not mistaken, why should he get the benefit of the doubt? But he still gets talked about like he would have beat Lewis by a few people. I believe you have them in the wrong order on your poll.

You think Lewis would KO Vitali in a rematch?
