Sounds reasonable. Could Bowe be the Frazier to Holy´s Ali? Just on a lowe level?

Of course Bowe would never fight like Wlad and of course Wlad would never have been as successful against Holy as he is with his other opponents - I still think Wlad would have beaten Evander. But that´s not the point. The point is Bowe fighting more similar to Wlad means he has an easier time.

The point was that Bowe using his jab and size more effictivly would mean he would have had an easier time.

That´s not an agenda, it´s an opinion backed up by Bowe´s overall career. I don´t want to prove anything since everybody who disagrees with me is wrong anyway. :D

Come on, the second fight was close and in the third one Holy was quite ill with his heart thing. Douglas did nearly the same does that make him a great fighter. Bowe deserves to rank higher since he beat Holy more than once and was more dominant - I´ve got him at 24 - but I don´t think he is an ATG.

That wasn't Bowe's style. And he wasn't as experienced. No one had beaten Holyfield before - and Holyfield was a very good champion, underrated at the time, a proud warrior who fought like hell to retain his title. Bowe's performance was brilliant, IMO.

    Maybe, maybe not.
He simply didn't have that amount of reach over Holyfield.
Holyfield had almost as much reach, and was fast coming in on his feet. And Holyfield had his own jab, which he could double up effectively.
It was probably Holyfield who should have kept this fight more at a distance.

Bowe's overall career was good. He was the undisputed champion of the world, went 2-1 against a great fighter. Was rated as the number 1 fighter in the world for much of a 3 - 4 year period.
He fails on longevity, he simply didn't last.
Some fighters have the quality to be great, but fail over the long haul to clearly achive greatness.
    Bowe was one of them.

Well, the close 2nd Bowe-Holyfield fight was the one Bowe lost, so that's more credit to him.
Holyfield wasn't at his best in the 3rd one, but Bowe was probably declined some by then too.

Douglas did well against Tyson but looked like **** against Holyfield, so to say he did almost the same as Bowe is just wrong, IMO.
Even at his worst, Bowe looks better than Douglas did against Holyfield.

Nothing more boring than someone who deliberately avoids a comment, pretends it wasn't there just because the poster adds an aisde, then passes of the 'joke' part as actually part of the debate.

Read the post above the pic, clown, which was the actual answer to your **** post. Like I said, this was just an aside to show how a real fighter wins the heavyweight crown and the antithesis of this- Schmelling, Luis Santana, etc.

Well, if you're the standard around here now I'm glad I don't post any more. Reading your comments on football was bad enough, now this...you could send a glass eye to sleep. :yep

I really don't understand what you're getting at. Who has said that Bowe was Duran or Whitaker with just 100 lbs added on? A 195 cm, 105 kg guy will never be the complete article; that can box perfectly at a distance and be just as good in close. Wlad and Lewis have/had their flaws, just as Bowe had his. But Bowe was for example never blitzed like they were by pretty average opponents, even though he of course had his weak spots as well.

He still was big, strong, powerful and durable with very good technique for someone his size. He also didn't know the word "quit". He was at his best in the pocket, but also good at range. He got the better of one of the most complete HWs ever over three fights. That's not bad.

He beat up a prime Evander far more conclusively, and looked far better doing so, than Lewis ever did the past prime version. Doesn't that count just because he didn't box him at range? I've really lost you here.

Well said. I'm not getting any of this "Bowe fought a wrong fight." I thought he beat Holyfield from the inside and out, that's why Holyfield made it a brawl. Part of the reason to is that they sparred and Holyfield didn't think he had the "stuff" to be champ and wanted to test that. That was the thought in the Holyfield camp before the fight I believe.

Ah, appears Left Hook beat me to it with the sparring stuff.

Does anybody but me think that Bowe is a bit of an enigma still?

His fights against Holyfield were awsome, but outside of that his record is somewhat inconclusive.

There are a lot of styles and types of fighter that we never realy saw him in against, or if we did the results were inconclusive.

Someone used the adjective "durable" which is the last one I would chose to describe Bowe. He fell apart so quickly and was destroyed by those encounters with Holyfield, which though he won 2 (according to boxrec), it was Holyfield who went on to fight another 3 decades. Very hard to rate.

You absolutely have a point there. For all we know there could be a number of guys and styles that would have his number. If Frazier had retired after FOTC most would have laughed at the idea of Foreman bulldozing him...

But with that said, he undoubtly was a very talented fighter.

So Patterson, who beat top fighters for nearly 20 years, was one of the most durable HWs ever then I suppose?

With "durable" is usually meant how well a fighter last through a fight. Bowe took absolute monster shots from Golota without going out and ate some very heavy leather from Holy as well and took it.

Then you should concentrate on what you saw on these occassions instead of throwing meaningsless digs right and left. This forum is slowly sinking as it is under posters just posturing instead of making meaningful analysis of what they see in fighters' perfomances.
