Which fighters today do you feel that people must watch to gain a true appreciation of the courage, savagery, grace, difficulty and skill level of boxing?

what got me being a fan was the boxer/punchers. very skilled but also produce kos. i don't think there's anything more exciting than to see a boxer puncher. marquez, trinidad, dlh, lennox lewis, leonard, hearns, jones, mosley, etc.

who got me interested in boxing is MIKE TYSON, but I did a whole 180. Swarmers aren't my favorite style. BOXERS and BOXER-punchers are

Marquez is skilled, exciting, very brave, and most importantly a very hard worker with class.

For those of you who don't speak Spanish, he is very eloquent for a man who fights the way he does, and for as long as he has.

I think Marquez is the best example of this. He's the complete package as a fighter. Very skilled and yet he doesn't hide behind those skills and fight defensively or cowardly. He is a skilled warrior, and to combine technique with bravery is rare and yet a beautiful thing to watch. His brother Rafa possibly represents these qualities even more than JMMarquez does.

Most of the guys on the list are boring. That can be respected, yeah, but you wouldn't argue that they are courageous or skillful.

Roman Gonzalez is another, I'd say.

Good discussion guys. Klitchkos are perhaps underrepresented in the courage dept because there really is nobody to test them since Lewis.

What is this true boxing fan elitist crap?

Anybody who enjoys boxing and has a desire to learn more about fighters of the present and past can be classified as such. Of course there are somewhat "essential" fights and performances one should try to watch, but let's not try to alienate people from enjoying the sport because they don't think they're qualified to.

With that said watching the technical brilliance of Floyd, the fast paced style of Pacquiao, and the heart of Marquez or Cotto should be a good start for any fan of the sport.

I don't need to insult them. They quite clearly don't represent the same qualities that fighters like both Marquez brothers, Gonzalez, Donaire, Gamboa, Rigo etc., do and to say otherwise would be ignorant.

The boxers that I mentioned above, fighters like Finito Lopez from the past, and guys like Benavidez Jr. in the future represent the artistry of boxing. The true sweet science. The Klitschkos do not belong in this category.

Class is universal. I dont speak spanish but he comes off very classy, and intellectual. Dont know if its because i know hes a certified cpa or i've seen him on 24/7 helping his son w/math hw. How cool would it be to have this man do your taxes and then talk boxing w/him?

Is he a CPA? I know he has an accounting degree. Nevertheless, very impressive and a great example of a boxer people must watch to appreciate the sport.

I picked two on the list:

    Klitschos and Floyd.

if I would pick one more it would be pacman.

Wlad and Hopkins are nice to have on the team if one is nationalistic because they bend the rules to the Max to win. winning always justifies the means to them. So for the nationalistic guy they are great. But their boxing is ugly and horrible to see how they fall to the ground or head but or whatever works. No true admirerer of the noble sport would want that. Having said that they are both technically very sound and most of the time don't even need to resort to bend the rules. For example against Froch fought a nice technical fight within the rules. So it is a shame that they ruin the sport when they could be thrilling us with the noble art.

Well thats what merchant said? Dont know if he said that when he was sober. He also once said the knock on jmm was that he also fought like an accoutant earlier in his career and thats why he didnt have a fan following like mab or erik. I also heard the shotime announcers say rafael marquez is also very educated.

From that list, definitely Marquez, to be honest I can't think of any other boxer right now who posseses both such amazing skill and be a warrior as he is, it seems like it's one or the other for most.
