Jones weighed 193lbs v Ruiz and I`d give him a good chance against any heavy under 193 except Louis, considering Jones fought in between 160-193 during his career (plus a couple at 154) which fighters in between those weights could have beaten him?
I’d give these a chance: - Michael Spinks - Archie Moore - Ezzard Charles - Ray Robinson - Evander Holyfield ( cruiser )
Michael Spinks (175) Evander Holyfield ,(190) Bob Foster (175) Marvin Hagler (160) Thomas Hearns (154) Mike McCallum (154)
Greb, Holman WIlliams, Burley, Papke, Ketchel, Mike Gibbons, Tom Gibbons, Gene Tunney , Tommy Loughran, Sam Langford , Philadelphia Jack O brien, Jack Delaney,Paul berlenbach etc etc etc etc
M Moorer recounted there sparring sessions many times saying he forced the action and that RJJ was always playing catch up trying to get away offering very little in the way of attack. Mind you Moorer was about 190lbs when they sparred and had a good set of whiskers below HW
You know you really are an obvious troll you will get very little people baited because your agenda is so clear dumb @$$
Most of the ones I would have said have been mentioned but another more contemporary guy is Andre Ward. I could see him giving Roy serious problems especially if he is able to establish his inside game. He was a tricky guy that didn't mind getting dirty on the inside in clinches and I do believe he had the speed and left hand to deal with Jones on the outside as well. Not saying that I would favor him over prime Jones but it wouldn't shock me if he did. He was a very adaptable fighter that literally cleaned out 168 in his era which was a very tough one and was able to have success against all different styles of fighter's. He was a pretty complete dude and that is what it would take to beat prime Jones.
If the pure weight is meant and not Cruiserweight or below then: - Rocky Marciano always weighed under 193 Ibs. - Young Floyd Patterson (e.g. 182 1/4 against Archie Moore) - Jack Dempsey (187 Ibs against Jess Willard) - Max Schmeling (192 Ibs against Joe Louis I) - Billy Conn and probably some more: Jimmy Bivins...
yeah and add to that many MWs, L-HWs, small or 'Traditional' HW's throughtout Boxing History. Conn, Marshall, JJW, plenty of good men whom 'could' beat him, he might beat many too, but he was by no means the Best eitherside of 175, never.
