After reading this I guess it depends on how you define it. Pavlik was taking karate with his brothers but wanted to take boxing instead because it was more contact. That was at 9.

Its usually the fighters who will engange in battles seemingly for the hell of it that are coined born to do it

I agree on Toney the guy just seems to have boxing in his blood.

Also Duran, no doubt. Born to be a fighter.

...like hell, as if he would be anywhere near as good if his name wasn't "Jr."...and if Sr. and Uncle Roger weren't teaching him from infancy.

That's not meant as a slight toward Floyd, if anything he's proved himself to be one of best boxing students of all time.

You probably think Tiger Woods would be great if his dad wasn't training him since he was 2 years old also, right...???

To say Floyd was "born with his skills rather than trained" is a very flawed statement...he could be one of the "most trained" boxers ever

    Dempsy
    Duran
    Marciano
    Liston
    LaMotta
    Greb
Morrison ...Tuff man competitions while only 13 or so and Koing guys
    Margo
Young Stribling...Family was a bunch of circus acrobats and his mother trained him. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Young_Stribling
Alot of the old time guys circa 1900-1945 were just nuts with fighting 4 or more times a freaking month. Alot had regular jobs and some partied thru all that as well.

Plus let's not forget they Roy beat his ass as an amature.

My vote would go to Tommy Hearns. One story I love is the first day he walked in to a boxing gym the first thing they did was put him in the ring to spar. He got his nose broke and the next day was right back in the gym. That's a born fighter.

Has everyone forgotten Muhammad Ali here? If anyone was born to fight it was him. Unfashionable town for fighters, no history of fighters in his family, but boy could he fight :yep

I can't think of a better example of 'born to fight' than old Muhammad. He had no roots in the fight game and reallly no reason to be as good as he was, he wasn't trained to do that **** because no-one had ever seen it before. Definately BORN to fight.
