I've noticed this a lot on these head to head threads with some of the ATGs.

There's this blind assumption that certain fighters would simply mop the floor with anyone and everyone from any era, and I've never bought into this idea that any fighter is that perfect.

I think it's been proven that any fighter is capable of upsetting an ATG in a given fight, and that no style is impenetrable.

Also, I've never understood the concept of assuming that certain fighters are unbeatable and can walk on water, and then proceeding to post up these prime vs prime h2h matchups with those fighters, I mean what is the point if it's already a foregone conclusion that they can't lose?

I don't think anyone beats Bazooka Gomez at 122, Tommy Hearns at 154 or Roy Jones at 168.

I agree ...and I would also like to add that every era will have fighters that are great ...and not so great

There's always someone who can beat another fighter in this sport

The old cliche of styles make fights is a cliche for a reason

On paper, Forrest vs Mayorga would result in landslide of votes in Forrest's favour on this forum, if it had never happened. But it did happen, and we know how it turned out.

If La Motta and Robinson had never fought, no one on this forum would pick La Motta. But they did fight and La Motta beat him (once)

    And so on, so forth

I don't think anyone beats Marciano at ~188lbs or LHW today, especially for 15 rounds.

Considering the considerable trouble Archie Moore and Ezzard Charles had him, I think there a few guys who could give Marciano a run for his money, including :
    Michael Spinks
    James Toney
    Holyfield
    Michael Moorer

I went ahead and spotted you the two pounds so that we could include cruiserweight

they ALL Can be beat and ARE Beaten,

but yes, some really slick stylist present problems and usually win, the same with Bull Strong tough KO fighters, they too usually win... but they ALL Can and Do get beat...

even the Rock, could've / should've maybe lost 1 or 2, but how much longer would he have gone 'unbeaten', 1, 5, 15 more times, we will never know, but it would have happened.

ALL TOP Fighters are in & around the same level, i.e - GREAT / Great / great, with not miles between them.

Muhammad Ali. 1964-1967, even Yank Durham did not want his fighter, Joe Frazier, (who at the time was ranked no.1 contender), in the ring with Ali in 1967.
