I'm 10 years older than you. That's when I stopped liking them. They always seemed to toss a pop song on an album (like You Really Got Me or Dance The Night Away) to try to grab some radio attention. But when they went from this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAktV72_nnE to this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwYN7mTi6HM in the span of about a year, it was pretty jarring. They became a lot more popular, but they lost a lot of fans. I remember people being really worried AC/DC would start using keyboards and synthesizers. Pretty funny now ... but it was a real concern then. (LOL)
Yeah ACDC stayed pretty true to their style. Shook me all night long was a bit of a yuppy tune, but most of their other stuff stayed kosher. I have a wide taste in rock genres. I grew listening to Black Sabbath, Metalica, Van Halen, ACDC, Iron Maiden and tons and tons of others.. I even liked pop music on the radio that metal heads of the day typically steered clear of. Whatever I liked I listened to. Incidentally I saw Halen in chicago in 1993 and David Lee Roth opened for them with his own solo gig. Great show.
My taste was pretty close to yours back then. I saw Iron Maiden (on The Number of the Beast tour) open for the Scorpions in 1982 when they were promoting the Blackout album. That was pretty sweet. I also was a fan of groups like The Cars. I liked The Clash and The Ramones. I don't listen to any of that much anymore. Now I tend to listen to The National. I don't know how I made that leap. I never saw Van Halen in person. They were never around when I liked them.
I saw Iron Maiden in 1988 with Megadeth opening for them. Saw a few Ozzy shows, metallica, etc.. I haven't been to a concert in years and likely never will again. Today I listen to almost everything including modern pop and the classics.
I still go to concerts. It's kind of similar to going to boxing matches. It's fun to be in large group of people who are into it. But I don't pay to see bands that were big decades ago. Like boxers, I prefer to see bands when they're coming up or peaking. Seems like when people go see an old band, they just spend the whole time comparing them to how good they used to be. That kind of sucks.
I used to love high energy public events, football games, baseball games, boxing matches, concerts, etc.. Now i don't like the hassles or dealing with rude people who are drunk or on drugs. I prefer TV viewing. But there was a time when I was right up there with ya on that...
