I was always very impressed with Foreman's jab in the second part of his career and how he used it. It was very similar to Liston's in the sense that it was more of a ramrod, concussive weapon than the quick, snapping jab of Holmes and Ali. Therefore I would like your opinions as to who had the better jab of Liston in his prime and Big George in his second career.
Liston had the better jab by a mile, not even close. For starters Sonny was smart enough to use his jab in every fight as opposed to George who seldom used it in his first career. Sonny`s jab was also more authoritive and textbook, and he used it very well to set up the rest of his arsenal but he could win rounds with his jab alone if he wanted. George on the other hand used his jab more as a range finder than as a weapon in itself, which was a mistake because when he did use it as a weapon like he did in the Chuvalo and second Frazier fight it was a thing of beauty. He knocked both Chuvalo and Frazier backwards with that jab alone, and had he used it like that in his other fights during his first career he would have been even more succesful than he was.
Well, the question concerned Foreman's second career, and in that I think he used his jab very effectively, mostly as an offensive weapon.
I just re-read your initial post and realized my mistake, I thought you were talking about the Foreman of his first career. I still think Liston`s jab was the superior one, but George`s jab in his comeback was indeed a very effective weapon in his arsenal.
