If this a trick question? I mean seriously. Pacman without a doubt. There is no comparison.

DLH was about a 2/1 favorite going in while PBF was about a 4/1 favorite going in.

DLH picked on the smaller man and thought he would just run over him. He was humiliated like few have ever been in a big fight. PBF picked on the smaller, slower man and did what he was supposed to do.

 

If not that DLH weighed 145 lbs officially and then only gained 2 lbs after having a history of adding significant weight to his weighin's......I would have said that Pacquiao's victory was more meaningful.........

However, this fact of DLH walking into the ring lighter than Pacquiao cant be ignored.

In his 1st stint as a Welter, DLH would consistently weigh 147 lbs and walk into the ring at 160 lbs......

....case in point, DLH's rematch with JC Chavez, DLH officially weighed 147 lbs and then walked into the ring weighing 161 lbs........



Believe this.....you could have polled everyone here beforehand on who they thought would win if when they entered the ring DLH weighing 147 lbs and Pacquiao 148 lbs.....and I would say that 90% of this forum would have picked Pacquiao by brutal KO!

Mayweather beat an undersized JMM, but at least Marquez was capable of throwing punches and fully capable of defending himself....something of which DLH vs Pacquiao was not!

Do you honestly believe those would have been the odds had the oddmakers known that DLH would officially weigh 145 lbs and climb the ring at 147 lbs???


Trust me, those odds would have been switched around to favor Pacquiao!

pure speculation. no one knows for sure what was actually happening inside the men but we sure know what was happening outside and that left no room for speculation.

Yeah, there is no doubt the weight thing is a big factor. Pacman outweighing DLH on fight night was something no one EVER expected. But still, you have to credit Pacman for beating up the taller and longer man and taking him out.

PBF, on the other hand, decided to fight at a weight he was comfortable at and wasn't willing to bend over to squeeze down. He came into the ring the noticeably bigger man.

In the end, the bigger men on fight night won both fights. But i still say Pacman's win is much more impressive and it's not even close for me. Only a fool thought that JMM had a chance.

 

No one gave Pac a chance. Definitely a big victory for the little man.

Looking back I can understand De La Hoya being a slight favrote over Pacquaio but A huge favrote? The sport books in Vages and where ever betting on boxing is leagle should have given their oddsmakers the pink slip.
Both Pacquaio and Mayweather were the better boxers going in.
De La Hoya's size could have been a huge advantage if he boxed right. The question is did he fight the way he did stalking Pacquaio and giving up his size advantage due to the fact that he was weight drained and did not have the engery to fight off of the back foot? Or was it that he had become desprate to impress and win over Mexican fans who perfer their boxers to show their hart more than their skills. Either way De La Hoya was an easy target for Pacquaio.
Marquez came into the Mayweather as the #2 p4p boxer. some had him as high as #1. Criticts like to point out that Marquez was a lightweight and that coming up to welterweight put him at a great disadvantage. Than again When Pacquaio fought De La Hoya at 147 no one seemed to compline that he was coming up from 135 in his last fight like the seem to do about Marquez before Mayweather.
In terms of who was the preceved bigger thret to Pacquaio and Mayweather. De La Hoya was precived to be a bigger thret to Pacquaio than Marquez was to Mayweather.
Who in reality posed a bigger thret to Pacquaio and Mayweather? Marquez had beaten Juan Daiz who while by no means is he an ATG he is a very good boxer. De La Hoya beat Steve Forbes a solid boxer. Marquez was also a better boxer at the time of their fights with Mayweather and Pacquaio than De La Hoya was.
Marquez in reality was a greater thret to Mayweather than De la Hoya was to Pacquaio.

Mayweather beat Marquez by 12 round decision Officily 120-107, 119-108 & 118-109. He also scored a knockdown in the 2nd round.

In boxing stats don't tell the whole story but they help.
Offensively Pacquiao threw about 90 more punches but Mayweather landed at almost dubbel the % rate.59% to 38% . In terms of Jabs Mayweather threw 316 landing 185 of them 59%. Pacquiao threw 252 landed 29 12%.
Power Punches Mayweather landed 105 out of 117 59%. Pacquiao landed 195 0ut of 333 59%.
On defense Marquez landed 69 of the 583 punches he threw at Mayweather. 21/288 were jabs 7% and 48/295 were power punches 16%
Over all he was able to conect with Mayweather 12% of the time.
De La Hoya was 83/402 over all. 32/238 with the Jab 13% and 51/164 31%. Over all De La Hoya was 21% in his conect rate against Pacquiao.
From a satistacal stand point Mayweather was better than Pacquiao on offense and defense.
My conclusion is that Mayweather's win over Marquez is a better win than Pacquiao's win over De La Hoya.

 

Floyd did what almost everyone expected him to do. Manny did what very few thought he could do and in a way practically no one expected him to do it.

The weight issue goes both ways, Oscar was slow and weak from losing weight, Juan was slow from the additional weight and much weaker compared to the bigger Floyd (who chose to not give a single advantage to Marquez by not making weight).

Marquez lasting the full 12 and landing a few clean shots against Floyd despite having no advantage over Floyd does more to enhance what Marquez did and actually takes away from what Floyd was able to do.
