What if the 2-1 odds truly reflected the fact that someone knew Oscar's weight was a big question mark...

If the insiders knew oscar was gonna be comfortable making 147 and easily add 6-8 pounds on fight night, then maybe those odds would have been 4-1 in favor of Hoya....

As a matter a fact, put it to the test and make it a poll........poll the Pac-Cotto fight, and list the circumstances with both fighters will officially weigh 145 lbs, but when they climb the ring, Cotto will weigh 147 lbs, and Pacquiao 148 lbs........

watch the disparity in the poll.......I'd say the poll would show more than 90% of the forum picking Pacquiao by brutal KO.

......if you would change the circumstances in that poll and said, Pac will weight 148 lbs on fight night, but Cotto will weight 156, you'd likely see a 50/50 split in who the winner will be.

DLH is naturally a bigger fighter than Cotto, and a much older one at that......naturally anytime an old fighter loses so much weight and then doe'snt hydrate back the 10 lbs or so he's normally hydrated back too.......we're talking about disaster.

 

.......and btw, every boxing writer picking DLH was siting size and weight disparity in their picking DLH......

......they were all thrown a curve ball when Pacquiao actually climbed the ring 1 lbs heavier than DLH!

.....the odds makers were no different than the boxing writers.....they all thought DLH would have a huge weight advantage on Pac.....but it just was'nt the case.

 

Some of your post makes sense and some of it doesn't.

I believe I have demonstrated in the previous post why Pac's victory was clearly better than Mayweathers, both on account of the strong nature of Pac's victory, and the weaker nature of Floyd's.
So I'll leave that point for the moment.


You assert that Pac would beat ANY version of DLH if both weighed 147 going in.

I don't believe so.

If Pac faced the Oscar who defeated Leija, that Ocar would be weighing in at 135 and coming in at 147, I believe Pac would be defeated, most likely stopped.



The difference is that Oscar would not be weight-drained, and would be at prime.

He was faster then, even than the Pac he faced, and was better overall, both offensively and defensively. He also packed a lot more punch.



While giving away his weight advantage over Pac had much to do with his defeat, another very important factor was his age and declining skills, not to mention declining hunger and 'softer' lifestyle.

You only have to look at his previous fight with Forbes to note that decline.

The WW Oscar of either Mosley 1 or Mosley 2 would have had Forbes out of there in short order. But, as Roach pointed out, he was finding it difficult to pull the trigger.

So yes, when I saw the weights, I believed it was about an even fight.

But a prime Oscar ?

He would have been too much for Pac.




Now Pac has surprised me before. Despite beating Oscar, I picked Hatton.

Nowhere near the skill level of Pac, but I felt he would be much stronger.

Pac had improved yet again (as he had in each of his three previous outings), and demolished the hapless Hatton, (to my pleasant surprise).

So I'd be foolish to bet against him a third time ?

Maybe. He could well turn it up another notch and beat Cotto.

But Cotto IS prime and WILL outweigh him by around 10 lbs.

And Cotto is NOT Hatton. While overall not quite as good as Pac, he has better fundamentals and WILL land on Pac.


I'm putting it at 55-45 in Cotto's favour.

I'd be surprised but not shocked if Pac pulled it out.

Regardless of what he does against Hatton, I give him no more than a 20-25 % chance against PBF.

Nothingwould please me more than to see him beat Floyd, especially by KO, but it's not happening.

IF it did, I would rank Pac ahead of my second alltime favourite fighter, Duran in my ATG list.

I agree on most of your points except for the DLH matter.......

The DLH hardcores around here like UliUli, Widdow, and a few others, know that my opinion is that DLH's boxing skills are overrated.
I never viewed DLH as a diciplined boxer. His sucess at the lower weights imo stemmed from fighting much smaller fighters, old, or those too slow and just not skilled enough.
IMO he did'nt beat those smaller fighters through skill, but with speed and power......

He's faced two top southpaws and looked like **** both times.....I had him beating Pernell Whitaker, but that Whitaker was shot, and DLH still managed to look shitty.

A big part of the problem in a head to head, prime for prime fight where both weighed the same in the ring would be that DLH has major troubles with southpaws.

In Pacquiao you're talking about a speedy and powerful one.......

You really need grade A skills and a good solid right hand to beat a fighter of Pacquiao's stance and style.....DLH had neither of them.

I dont see a KO, but I do see a comfortable points win for Pacquiao.

I was more impressed with floyd's boxing clinic as a fan....but on the record books manny's win over oscar is bigger...
