You can make a case for Sonny Liston.

Williams could hit, but he really only stopped one guy that was highly rated.

Patterson could also hit, but he lasted a combined two rounds in both fights.

The third best puncher Liston fought is debatable.

At heavyweight most fighters are pretty good punchers.

Mike Dejohn? 6'4" 205lb with a wicked left hook

Nino Valdes? 6'3" 215lb he could really punch with both hands

Liston fought quite a few good punchers with size. No way should he be mentioned here

    Liston? :patsch

Valdes Williams Martin Patterson Dejohn were monster punchers

Certainly bigger punchers than most heavyweight champs pre 1930 faced

Marciano fought 3 men rated in ring magazines top 100 punchers of all time list. He does not belong here.

How come gene Tunney hasn't been mentioned? What puncher did he face besides an aging Jack Dempsey?

Two of them were ranked that highly for their exploits against light heavies...doesn't make them bangers at heavyweight imo. (the other was past his prime and only had one ko in his previous 4 fights).

Leon Spinks... And he counts because he was lineal. Bernardo Mercado and Gerrie Coetzee may be the best heavyweight punchers he faced and he lasted one round against the latter.
