He did blatantly duck Tony Tucker though, instead opting to fight rusty past-prime Cooney who totally didn't deserve the title shot in the slightest. Plus he did technically lose his Ring title, in Holmes II. :deal

Has to be Willard, Carnera, or Frazier.

Willard took a brutal beating from Dempsey

Carnera was knocked down 11 times and savagely beaten by Baer

Foreman bounced Frazier around like a basketball

There is a point in the first round where after a knockdown Willard turns to the referee when he is counting and has a look on his face of "get me out of here" he looked absolutely helpless. You are right it was a brutal fight and the left hook that caused the first knockdown actually was hard enough to spin Willard around.

And Jack Dempsey ducked Harry Wills and Harry Greb. Many champions in boxing history weren't the best while they reigned as champ. Did that make them any less of the champion? You know, the man who beat the man who beat the man, etc. And no, you are wrong again. Spinks was the Ring champion when he fought Tyson. Michael Buffer even announced it in the introduction. Even if he "should have" lost the rematch to Holmes, he didn't officially lose. This is boxing and the judges get the say so. :deal

Spinks would have been stupid to fight Tucker, a complete no-name, for about $500,000, when he could get $4 million for the Cooney fight.

Tucker hadn't exactly done anything to deserve a shot either.

Willard, Carnera, Patterson (twice - against Ingo AND Liston) and Frazier lost their titles in very brutal fashion.

I'd probably say Willard, followed by Patterson (the 1st time : Ingo) look most brutal on film.

If we are going to bring Sullivan into the argument, then it should be noted that he darn near killed Paddy Ryan in seperating him from the title.

Different times back in Dempsey's day. There was no commission. Rules became more strict so that if a champion doesn't defend against the #1 contender, he gets stripped, and loses the title. The three titles meant more in 1986-1987 than they do now. Tyson was the champion.
The Ring championship is not an official title. It gets more recognition today since there is an absurd count of 55 alphabet titles.
