I was thinking that one too - to those who've picked FRazier's loss to George Foreman - come one?? That is incredibly harsh??? Who wouldn't have been obliterated by Foreman?? I thought this was about worst loses in that an ATG lost to someone who shouldn't able to carry any ATG's jockstrap?
Tyson, Ali, Holmes, Lewis, Vitali, Holy, Bowe, off the top of my head. That defeat hugely affects Frazier's legacy rightly or wrongly.
Douglas was a good fighter with good skills. I dont think thats as bad as Lewis getting Ko'd by Mcall who had zero skills.
Actually Seamus, your wrong here. Marshall was Ring Magazine top 10 rated when he fought Liston, making him more than "mediocre". How many ATG heavyweight champions took on a Ring Magazine top 10 fighters in just there 7th pro fight?
I don't know how high up Holyifeld is considered to be on the ATG heavyweight list, but that loss to Moorer was pretty bad.
Buster Douglas was far more competent, far more threatening an opponent than Leon Spinks was. Sorry, but Ali has the worst loss.
He had been KO'd 4 times prior before that Liston fight. He was essentially a lightheavy. Liston is by far the best fighter he beat (as would be for most fighters) but second place was a has been Satterfield (who had been KO'd over a dozen times) and then absolutely no one of note. All kinds of fighters get ranked for all kinds of reasons (sometimes a really weak division). Let's not make Marshall out to be something he is not. He would not sniff the top-10 in any month of any year 1970 and beyond.
I agree with the Muhammad Ali - Leon Spinks one actually. But many will disallow it because Ali was past his prime. Thing is, Ali was heavyweight champion of the world, had just beat a decent contender 5 months earlier (Shavers), and would go on to win against Leon six months after too.
