Would I be shouted down for suggesting Joe Louis' defeat vs Schmelling? At best the latter was a decent fighter but nothing more.
Dempsey - Meehan is definitely up there. That's a peak Dempsey dropping a a 4-rounder 3-1 to a fat creampuff puncher. I don't know if it's any worse than Lewis getting one-punch KO'd by McCall and Rahman though. Or Ali losing to Spinks. Schmeling-Daniels happened about a year before Schmeling was a serious contender, so it's borderline, and some say Schmeling isn't an ATG champion anyway. Maybe he is, but if he's not then Louis's loss to him is quite bad too.
You know for an absolute fact that his loss to Meehan and his 10 second anniahlation at the hands of Fireman Flynn are far worse than those you listed
I kind of agree. Schmeling was quite a tough fighter and a decent puncher but it's highly disputable whether he was a great.
The Flynn defeat is the worst, sure. But Dempsey wasn't really a top fighter when it occurred. It happen before he was a real title contender, so it's debatable whether it should be included. Meehan is a **** loss too, but whether getting given the run around in a 4-rounder is necessarily worse than getting knocked out or outpointed over 15 is debatable too. Anyway, it's nice to hear you acknowledge Dempsey as an ALL-TIME GREAT for a change. :good
i agree douglas really had potential. he nearly beat tucker to get a shot at tyson in 1987 lewis against mccall or ali against spinks
"Most Worst" is redundant. If something is the worst, it's just the worst. Please edit the title of this thread before I lose my mind.
:nonoDon't retract. Again, Max was already the European Champion at 175, and he'd beaten Daniels over ten just a couple months earlier. This is like reversing the chronology of the Dempsey-Flynn, Louis-Schmeling, Lennox-Rahman and Lennox-McCall results. Gipsy Daniels wiped out Max in the REMATCH, the second of only two times in 152 fights that Daniels would ever win in the opening round.
Nice to see the reasoned style of argument found on the "lounge forum" has now spead to what I thought would be a more refined area. :-(
what about foreman losing to schultz in 1995 (though he got the decision). is that exempt from this discussing cos george was past it
Yet you must rate him and ATG to include him here :huh Last time I looked, Johnson had only lost to Hart,Choynski and Willard out of those 5. The first was debatable the second was while he was a light heavy himself, and the third was when he was 37 after being in front at the 80 minute stage, but you carry on in your own objective way.
