Usyk is too fast for Wlad and would land more shots on him than AJ did, Usyk has a better defense than Povetkin displayed v AJ.

Why would they figt him and what will happen to Wilder and Usyk? AJ will want to unify with Fury instead of fighting Wlad that`s are far bigger fight and Fury and AJ are far bigger names in the UK than Wlad was, there would be more interest in an AJ v Fury fight than a Wlad fight wit either of these two specifically because the Brits saw Wlad get stopped by AJ.

Vitali was actually still WBC champion at the age of 42, and had his last defence at age 41.
Pretty sure he could have regained a championship up till a couple of years afterwards.

    Hard to say.

The single most important thing is getting a relatively soft title shot. Not all title shots are equal. Plenty of 40 yr old former greats could have handled Charles Martin circa 2016 or Bernie Stiverne circa 2015. Mike Tyson circa 1987? Lennox Lewis circa 1997? Tyson Fury circa 2020? Not so many.

Other than the above, the template is a guy who relies primarily on attributes that don't decline with age [height/reach being the best example, speed and flexibility the worst], who looks after himself superbly well, has good luck with injuries, avoids 'damaging wars', etc.

I would actually give Povetkin a 40% chance of beating Wilder if they fought right now. Wilders defence is abysmal and he can’t take Povetkins hook or uppercut without looking like a spider on a hot plate.

With decreased reflexes, slower feet and no Manny Steward that glass is getting shattered by anyone at HW with a bit of skill and timing. As good as Wlad was he's no teak tough Foreman or Holmes, once a fighter like Wlad whose success was entirely dependent on his ability to keep an opponent out of punching range is gone then hasta la vista against anyone who can land regularly with decent punch power.

    I don't see it happening really. A
Mid forty s heavyweight would need to be either a solid puncher or face a guy with a weak chin

Or both, like Foreman and Moorer.
Maybe not in our life time but who knows?

I have ZERO doubt Vitali would have obliterated Stiverne and Wilder even at 42 or 43.

I think the belts will eventually become splintered again right before or right after the Fury vs AJ fight and Wlad might elect to come back and take a crack at one then retire regardless of the result. I don't expect Wlad to fight AJ or Fury again. I also don't expect Wlad to fight Usyk they are essentially stablemates.

For hometown hero A.J last mandatory was 39 y.o Pulev, an absolute and total underdog forIBF tittle defense.
Not 34 y.o Usyk for WBO title defense because great A.J is too busy and too great to have such not enough old opponent in the ring instead od Pulev, at least 39 y.o , enough old to fight with.

Of course, Usyk is younger than Povetkin and 217 lber now, not like old 224-225-228 lbs Povetkin and OLD.
Ali vs Liston was 215 vs 220 lbers fight but guys, it is named heavyweight therefore it is cool while now you consider 217 lbs Usyk as puny CW guy.
Nice attitude and a lot of fun.

Wlad will have to fight some tough guys before fighting for the World Title. There are tough guys like Whyte, Usyk, Wilder, or Povetkin.
