But I see what you mean about one punch KOs. The one on Cooey wasn't bad, though.

I think if it were Shavers or Tua who landed that big punch, Chuvalo would go down no matter how good his jaw was. Foreman shook him up, but he stayed on his feet. And no way does Frazier get up several times with them.

At least Shavers had better one punch power (in his right) than Foreman. But few dispute that, so I don't really sse how Foreman is overrated. How can you overrate that right uppercut that lifted Frazier from the canvas?

I agree. I think it was Holmes (?) who when asked if Tyson was the hardest puncher he had faced, he said he wasnt the hardest, but he was the sharpest (ie speed, accuracy).

I think a lot of today's heavyweights could be putting Frazier down as often as Foreman if they were landing on Joe as easy as Foreman did that night. There are a lot of heavy-handed heavyweights out there.
But the thing is, with all the praise Foreman has been getting one would come to expect Julian Jackson kind.

    i absolutely agree,

i dont even know if tyson power was within the top ten heavyweight champions/title holders that had power... but he had everything else to make the knock outs come out (in prime: tremendous conditioning, defense, punch arsenal, instinct, strength, hand speed, chin, combination punching, body work, good corner, intimidation and ferocity) .... and like you said he had plenty of power too.

one thing Foreman had was power, he was a clubbing puncher but he had power...Vitali does not have the snap in a lot of his punches but he has heavy hands also and most of his opponents retire before the clean Ko, same with his brother...Ali for all his speed and acuracy still had trouble stopping quality heavys so with all his speed and acuracy...his power was minimal.....

I agree with you. While I no doubt agree that Foreman was a big puncher, I'm with you in that it does seem that his power gets overblown a bit, especially with guys recounting the whole Foreman uppercut that lifted Joe Frazier 12 inches(or was it 3 feet?) off the canvas B.S. Foreman was no doubt a hard puncher, but he rarely ever KO'd anyone with a single shot.

For single, one shot power he probably did. His speed was big part of his punching power as you said, but the end result was tremendous KO power.

    Anyone ever hear of "Concussion"??

Anyone ever hear of "Knocked Out"??

There's a big difference between the two.

There's not a great deal of H/Ws in the history of the game that had a genuine 'one punch' KO power. Most, if not all, would land bombing blows on the heads of opponents, and duely drop them... again and again. Thats concussive power.

Looking down the weights, there's more 'one punch' knock outs.

There have been tests over the years, and basic tests still suggest that a M/W has a more explosive punch P4P than a H/W. Timing, balance, delivery and accuracy, combined with physical strength make for a more damaging punch.

The stories of Carl Morris etc etc etc looking for the opponent 12 hours after a fight, having literally 'gained conciousness again' are more than proof.

H/Ws will get up, and box on whilst 'out on their feet'.

If Foreman and Vitaliy don't have great power in their hands then who has for gods sake?! Sick.

Talking about pure power, tell me, who had more one-punch knockouts over good opposition, Tyson or Foreman?

Maybe he did, but that still was a very powerful punch.
