Bull****. A full power bomb from Bruno was extremely powerful, but it's not like he was often landing them clean or letting his hands go with his best power. In the '89 Pressure Plate tests of Heavyweight Powerpunching, the Champion Iron Mike was measured at 480 PSI (lbs per square inch), Razor Ruddock at 495 PSI, Old Foreman at 520 PSI, & Frank Bruno at 535 PSI. I would've loved to have seen what Lennox would've been measured at 3 years later in '92, when he obliterated Ruddock in devastatingly shocking fashion... I'm guessing noticeably more powerful than all of those men.

Louis had two types of power: (1) Short, quick, sharp, fast, power shots. Like 6 inch punch. They could stun you if not take you out. Most tend to look at this being Louis's power. But not so.

It's when he loaded up....when he pulled back...that's when you saw guys go flying and twirling around like he was in a Cartoon. It's just that the first way of doing things is smarter and better.

Tyson was also fighting in a big boy era. It's like body-shots. Body-shots in that era, although effective, those Big Guys could take a lot more of them because they were so damn thick/padded. He still had a good one shot bomb. But his looping hooks became less effective because fighters could now see them coming when they were one at a time.

But overall, yes...for both Tyson and Louis...a lot had to do with the combination of speed, accuracy, precision, along with natural power when punching in combinations.

But again, with Louis, you can see when he loads up....

But also pay attention to how powerful even those really

    can be.

I always hear different numbers for these tests and debate if Tyson actually ever did it. I remember reading Steve Lott said Tyson was never tested while with them.

The Ruddock and Foreman one is new. Never heard that before.

    Who did this test???

It would be an interesting read. Have any articles on hand?

I did hear that Bill Cayton said he'd never let Mike do PSI tests, because they risk hand fracture of breakage, but are unpaid unlike fights. He was a manager with genuine care for his fighters. However, that test was in '89, when Tyson had (much to my great annoyance to this day) went off to be Dung King's boy. I don't have any articles on hand, but if I find a reputable source again one day, I will scan the magazine pages to show you. My best bet is my friend DonBoxer, who has literally thousands of Boxing Mags... I will ask to search through his Ring & Boxing Monthly issues from '89.

C, interesting measuring the power tests cited above.
But as in baseball a Dave Kingman hit 5oo feet bombs throughout his baseball career but was a 245 lifetime average hitter...A Louis and a Ray Robinson hit so fast with great leverage an opponent could not escape their volley of punches.

You know, I seem to recall a sparring partner in common for Bruno and Shavers said that he felt Bruno was on par with Shavers as a puncher. :conf I thought that was interesting, for whatever anyone might make of it.

**** off Suzie, I can't wait till your boring ass gets banned again. :hi:

Your "I'm not Suzie! :| " alt account was so painfully pathetic. :rofl

I lost the source, I just kept the stats recorded, & as I said, I'm going to search through Ring & Boxing Monthly mags to find it again, but not for you, for Caelum .

"On the set of 'Africa Screams', Maxie punched a POST-pubescent Okapi unconscious. One extra, Blinks, we called him, said he wasn't impressed, because they were just "stage Okapis". Well, apparently that Okapi had wondered in-completely wild. Let's just say concussing a wild, post-pubescent Okapi's skull ain't no pencil-neck stuff."

anyone who bet ANY man that he couldn't get Mae to go to bed with him certainly deserved to lose the money.

    As Mae herself put it

"I used to be Snow White, but I drifted."

Bull****? A guy cant have an opinion without getting 'Bull****' in a reply.
Bruno never knocked out a good, prime fighter in his entire career!!!

Tell you what? You name me one, just one, LIVE opponent that he demonstrated this 'full power bomb' and , if satified , i'll gladly retract my statement. Big muscles does not equate to powerful puncher
