I've yet to see evidence of Ali missing wildly.

Or are we talking solely POWER shots?

A guy not mentioned yet is Marciano.

But he was so deceiving at it. Probably why you have to watch him so closely.

It was like the first punch was a throw away type punch and more to position himself for follow ups. I think his first punch connect rate was like 20%. And often times sloppy. But man, those follow ups. They were like 75%. Tough shots and usually optimal extension. They just didn't hit air. If they missed the chin, they caught the shoulder or top of the head or somewhere. What they didn't do was catch air.

    Lennox Lewis

    Jack Dempsey

I cannot remember these guys swinging and missing wildly. I think they always hit the mark even when they lost.

Marciano is not given credit for his perfect punches, with his short arms and catchers legs he did not always look calculated but the leverage that he put into a punch in an awkward fashion was either a great gift from above or some incredible teaching or a lot of both.

His one punch KO over Layne and Walcott among many others are examples. I know some people may laugh at your post but I do not. It amazes me the power generated and where did it come from, his legs ? short arms but he did land some perfectly timed punches in his day.

Marciano was a freak and I dont think we will see the exact likes of him again in these days but there were no Lennox Lewis's or Klitschko's or Bowes in his or Louis's day that were able to make the grade to the top.

Marciano along with Duran, SRR, Pep, Greb,SRL, Benny Leonard,Canzonari were among my favorite lb for lb guys

Especially considering he is punching at guys smaller than him. I was thinking of mentioning Holmes, but he had much bigger targets to hit throughout his career
