I'd think Tyson would be right around the #20 mark, actually.

Just because of the amount of defences I would have thought Holmes would be arround the 20 mark also??

Holmes fought a total of 26 different boxers that were rated in the top 10 at one time or another a total of 30 times.

Tyson fought a total of 23 different boxers that were rated in the top 10 at one time or another a total of 26 times.

Ali fought a total of 38 different boxers that were rated in the top 10 at one time or another a total of 49 times.

Louis fought a total of 43 different boxers that were rated in the top 10 at one time or another a total of 54 times.

The totals are lower if you just count when they were rated.

    Interesting.

This adds a dimension to Quarry’s resume that I hadn’t seen before.

If it hasn't been mentioned Holmes is 20-5 and I think Lennox Lewis is next at 19-2-1. If you want to say 20-2 I'd be fine.

Young Stribling had 289 fights. Some of those have to have been against ranked guys. He fought Jack Sharkey, Primo Carnera, Max Schmeling, Ernie Schaaf, Arthur De Kuh... No, looks like he fought a lot at light heavyweight too Loughran, Rosenbloom, Berlenbach, etc. Same thing could probably be said about Sam Langford: 256 fights but how many of them were at heavyweight?

Is that against ranked opponents at the time of the fight?

It should be at the time they fought. I would also like to see who fought the most Top 5 Ring rated contenders, just to add a bit more domination to the champ's ATG status.

Langford fought pre ranking and Stribling fought a lot more stiffs than he did rated opposition.

As for Bokaj yes that is at the time of the fight. Although as you can see from Klompton we have some disagreement over the actual number.

    Incredible post.

I'd love to see Lennox Lewis get a similar appraisal. EDIT: Thanks Red.
