I think,Lewis,Tyson and Holyfeild fought the top guuys when they could...except Lewis/Bowe and that was because of Bowes reluctance...Holmes had an impressive run but mostly vs guys with 10-13 - 15 fights and no ones and avoided too many of the top fighters in his era

Whitherspoon was strong and tough minded in that he came to fight. He had a heavy right hand to go with his jab. But he came to fight and fight he did. He did lose the fight. Who else ever jabbed fairly even with Holmes? No one out jabbed Holmes . Holyfield may have out worked an older Holmes. Holyfield outworked most of his opponents. Look how Holmes dominated Cooney with the left jab. It was a work of art in his prime and even later.

Lucky for Holmes he avoided fighting Pinklon Thomas. Thomas's jab was better than spoons and williams.

    I was testing you.

Great fight and extremely close. Holmes was busier with the jab, but both were about evens as you said. And it was a superb all round fight. It had everything, boxing to brawling.

They obviously all beat guys with major name value, but Holyfield beat the ones who were closest to their best and had the most momentum going into the fights.
