Fair enough. Sorry if things got a tad heated there for a moment.

Pity that Ref wasn't officiating in the Hopkins Calzaghe scrap, looked to me like there were two Refs in there at times, Cortez and B HOP!

Who did Jeff fight that didnt have a fight? Jem Roche and Jewey Smith were poor but both had a lot more fights than on boxrec.Palmer was poor. Jack Finnegan was poor as was Jack Roper. Brian London was also average. Tony Musto? Harry Thomas? Barone and Beshore as stated. Rademacher, McNeeley, Zyglewicz, Ramos, Terry Daniels, Coopman, Dunn, Zanon, Frank, Tangstad. The worst...Finnegan!

I was going to ask the same thing myself. Boxrec shows that every man Jeffries ever fought ( recorded ), had a pro record. He may have fought some exhibitions against a few fighters with only amatuer experience or none at all, but I haven't read enough litereture on Jeffries to know for sure.

I'd LIKE that story about Jim Jeffries fighting guys who never even had an AMATEUR fight to be true. For some reason I find the idea amusing.

Andrew Golota always struck me having a poor resume and credentials to get a shot at Lennox Lewis's WBC title.
Golota had been DQ'd in his last two fights, against the only top 10 fighter he'd ever faced. Coming off two DQ losses is a **** resume IMO.

The fight being made rasised more than a few eyebrows, seeing as Lewis had just won on a DQ against Akinwande, and before that a TKO by nervous breakdown against McCall. Oh, and in the months between those two contests, Tyson had bitten chunk out of Holyfield's ear !
Yes, the 1990s, what a Golden Era of heavyweight boxing !

I think its terrific for a champion to fight men who have never boxed before. In fact, I think every champion should feature a monthly profile fight. Perhaps next month Wlad should fight a man who works in the law or medical field. I myself am an office manager, but hey, I'll take the shot, of course I have put on gloves to spar before, so that might disqualify me, but I know a mild mannered gentleman who had never even swat a fly.. I think he'd be perfect. The local mailman and pizza delivery guy's are nice options as well.

Ah yes, but men were tougher back in Jeff's day. The average man may not have ever put on the gloves or boxed in the roped square, but he'd probably had ten thousand street fights before his 16th birthday, been to war, and been working down the mines since he were five years old.
He'd work 16 hours a day and run 25 miles to work every morning. Damn, the average workin' man from 1895 woulda been too much for a creampuff like Wlad Klitschko ! Just put the gloves on him and explain the rules and he'd clean out the division.

Yes, men were certainly men in those days, but why should toughness be a factor here? Surely anyone who looks like this should be able to beat up even the toughest of alpha males:
