And to think ref Jay Edson when asked in the post-fight news conference why he didn't at least penalize Foreman he said because it was just an "unintended follow through" of the standing punch! Oh really? Didn't realize Roman was a munchkin

That's a good point regarding Djokovic I was thinking more how he looked in 2025/2026.

At the time Sampras retired didn't he hold the record in terms of men's titles by a hefty margin? If he held the men's record he probably felt he didn't have anything left to prove.

I thought a big reason Djokovic has carried on so long is an attempt to take the overall title from Margaret Court and put some distance between himself and Nadal, Federer

 

Sampras was burnt out. He'd had enough. Some niggles, drop in form, lack of desire. It was just over for him, the same way it can happen in boxing. In tennis you are spared the ebating lol.

Well they are tied so he's probably wanting that next one. He's always sulked at not being popular compared to Nadal and especially Federer too. Now they are gone he's getting a bit more adulation as the last remnant of the era IMO and.......LOVING it. That might be keeping him going a bit too. He's unlucky, he was still playing well when those two left tennis but suddenly two future ATG's emerged and more titles became awfully hard to find.

 

The Murder of Sonny Liston book is intriguing and has some excellent research into his latter days in Las Vegas, but it did not convince me he was murdered.
