Just worth considering, smaller guys can present with their own, smaller size related advantages - particularly when they're fixated on running and not actually winning, as Machen was. The Machen fight is actually a plus for Sonny, not a negative.

Liston stopped the obviously durable Wayne Bethea in super quick time. No one did same before or after. Of course, he also put Patterson out twice, for 10 counts in the first round. No one came close to doing that, not even Ingo with his bingo. Despite 7 KDs Ingo could not keep Patto down.

Machen fell prey to Ingo because he took him far too lightly. Machen didn't display anywhere near the same opening rounds aggression against Liston. Liston's already well-earned rep. as a puncher (I think Sonny had also flattened Folley in 3 not long prior) saw a duly wary, not willing to properly engage Machen.

Curiously, with the Ingo-Machen fight having already gone down, Patterson, by his own admission, also took Ingo too lightly. In fact, that miscalculation is probably what allowed Ingo to break through Floyd's otherwise, heavily protective, title reign barriers.
