Statistically Foreman’s. Fighters today fight a lot less frequently and are able to go a lot longer than they used to.
Foreman's record, Tyson was able to fight for the heavyweight title because he got close to 30 fights in under 2 years. Itauma tried that but due to the circumstances of modern boxing, it just isn't possible unless you can make yourself a name in the amateurs then go pro early in some country like Mexico then idk, fight somewhere international and build a name quick, but even that is nothing short of hard stuff
My take. Foreman s record is most likely to fall , mainly because of boxing politics , vacant belts and late bloomer s making strange things happen. Tyson's record needs a truly freakish prodigy.
Foreman's record is more likely to fall, based on the changes that have happened in boxing. Young fighters are being pushed less quickly, and old fighters are able to achieved greater longevity, for reasons that I will not go into. I am frankly surprised that Tyson's record wasn't set much earlier in the sport, and Foreman's hasn't fallen yet. Both men were unlikely candidates to set their respective records, for a number of reasons.
Foremans. The current model of boxing pushes careers back further. If everyones old no one is. At the same time an actual superhero wouldn't be able to break Tysons record because they getting a title shot still takes time. Fun trivia theres an WBF office building somewhere that thinks Foremans record belongs to Joe Bugner. There must have been something in the water in 1949.
I think with the decline of boxing — fewer and fewer people going into it, a thinning of the herd — that either could happen. I figure Foreman’s goes first but I’m not sure that in 100 years Tyson will still hold his distinction because some wunderkind could win Olympic gold at an early age, turn pro, have like 4-5 fights and be gifted a title shot for some belt or other (Tyson did not truly become heavyweight champ until he beat Michael Spinks, he just collected some belts) and win.
Foreman's. With four belts to chose from, five if this Zuffa thing flies, it is only a matter of time before they find someone Derrick Chisora can beat, or whoever the next Chisora is. With guys like Itauma fighting twice a year, they can't get in position quick enough.
