Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, Wladimir Klitschko, Tyson Fury? Maybe cubans Luis Ortiz or even cuban Odlanier Solis could do the work too? Povetkin? David Haye? Lamont Brewster? Some of them have of course great knowledge of boxing, but they can't give it to fighters. And not all of them have that good boxing IQ, but they could be very good trainers to make workouts. Who'd you pick?
Klitschko or Lewis , I think it's all about constantly training. Boxing teaches you how to be a real man, can you imagine Solis or Fury being your coach? They are like 500 lbs + , it's not a good example for a boxer imo.
Strangely i actually think Fury could have a lot to teach you... put it this way he has great fundamentals ... ie movement, dictating range, and the ability to win heavy weight fights without KO'ing your opponent. For someone without big power (which is so important at HW) he has managed to become world champ. He has talent no doubt about it because he might be the least dedicated out the rest! if that makes sense ( however you make a very valid point in the hard work sense)
ps lewis was brought in to help improve Price, specifically his jab after the first Thomson loss and didnt really seem to make much of a difference
Without a doubt one of the Klitschkos. They are always in great shape, have studied for doctorates in their field and display a sound mastery of the fundamentals. Wlad at least sounds like he is an easy guy to get on with. What more would you want from a coach?
the good thing about Klitschko would be that he was very raw when he started and not so much naturally talented so he was therefore taught a helluva lot to get to the level he was which means he may actually be able to transfer a lot of that knowledge over to other fighters. Whereas it may be a lot more tricky for the guys who were naturally more talented to teach as there will be aspects to there ability that wasnt taught to them if you get what I mean. Its easier to teach someone what you yourself were taught rather than try to teach someone something you have always kinda done instinctively ?
I agree with you here. I was initially going to say Ali, because he was always in shape and ready to go. But then I remember poor ol Mike Weaver that they used as a punching bag when sparring with him. And there's also the question of transmitting knowledge, and for that nothing beats an academic mind of somebody who has sat down and formalized this knowledge within themselves. Between the two brothers I'd go with Wlad. While I think Vits is better, I'd not want to spar with that mean facker if I was some greenie. I sort of get the idea that Wlad may go easy on the newbies.
I agree he has some skills no doubts, but I don't think he would take it seriously as a challange to coach someone.
true... and after thinking about it (and reading BCS8's post) I would go along with Klitschko. for the reasons I gave above
