    Terrible post:tired

That situation was a conflict between two promoters who happened to have the biggest ego's on the planet. King and Newman.
King had purse bid rights for the fight and was low balling Newman.
You obviously don't have a clue about the situation.
Bowe was jobbed by Lewis in the ams. Why the fck would he be scared of him when he was clearly the better professional boxer at the time. Bowe said for years that he 'owe'd him one'.
Lewis knew he could get the belt out of the bin. He pulled the exact same trick again a few years later to get it from Tyson.

That's a disgraceful thing to say.

Mods - shouldn't this kind of comment be stopped?

Dino - we've been here before fella.

How was Bowe jobbed by Lewis in the ams? The ref stopped the fight...not Lewis' fault, surely? Bowe admitted afterwards "he shook me up pretty much".

Bowe said he owed Lewis one for effect, he talked the talked, when it came down to it he didn't walk the walk as far as Lewis is concerned.

If Bowe felt he owed Lewis one, it made no sense for Bowe to dump a belt...he had all the belts; he had what Lewis wanted, if he had REALLY wanted to fight Lewis he would have held on to the belts in the knowledge that Lewis would have to come to him.

Relinquishing the WBC belt gave Bowe the "out" from fighting Lewis that Bowe was looking for.

I must say that I think you're in denial on this one Dino.

Wass1985 - I know McVey can be blunt at times (although clearly a knowledgable poster), but if you've been insulted why a) drop down to that level & b) surely you agree that comments about mothers are a step too far fella?

You're nit-picking a tiny piece of the post fight interview. Bowe said it was stopped to early and his team told him not to complain about it.

It was a bull**** stoppage. Bowe controlled the first round. It was ended in the second as soon as Lewis landed a punch.
You don't wave off a fight when the other guy lands a punch. Bowe wasn't even given a mandatory standing 8 count.
This was in the same Olympic's where Roy Jones won every second of every round and lost.
Bowe had no reason to fear Lewis.

Vitali has been a dominant champion for years. Something Riddick could never pull off. When Riddick was right there was no HW like him. But Vitali has shown the character and swag of a great champion. Unlke Riddick joining the Army after 20M paydays and than quit 3 days later... Riddick had no real life focus outside of boxing and coudn't keep his **** together being bipolar and all.

So what if Bowe had controlled the first round? We're talking about the events of the 2nd round here.

It depends on the quality of the punch...and Bowe HAD been given a standing 8 prior to the stoppage.

We'll have to agree to disagree about the validity of the stoppage...apart from anything I thought Bowe's body language looked like he had had enough...

What has RJJ's fight got to do with this fight? Tillman got a bad decision over Musone in LA in '84 - that doesn't render every other deciaion in LA as a bad one...likewise in Seoul.

Do you have a view on my ccomment about Bowe giving up the belt in my previous post? As I say, he could have forced LL to fight him IF he 'd held on to the WBC belt...giving up the WBC belt gave Bowe the "out" he was looking for.

How can he be considered a dominant champion when his brother held most of the belts and more or less claimed lineage along with having to avenge one of his losses for him? Is beating an ancient Shannon Briggs, Manuel Charr, Juan Carlos Gomez, Albert Sosnowski and Kevin Johnson the stuff that " dominant champions" are made of ?

He had enough after 1 and a half round:huh And you'd know this how? Bowe said how he felt , so whatever you think about how he felt is irrelevant.

Ive done the Newman/King situation enough times. I'm over it for the time being.

Boswell was a nobody. Don't you think Vitali who was training for a 10 round match would have trained harder if he was preparing for a 12 round match with Lewis? Of course. So stop with your usual omission of facts.

Vitali suffered a torn shoulder and was well ahead when he retired mostly out of concern of causing permeant damage. As for Byrd, Lennox Lewis wanted no part of him and vacated a belt to avoid fighting Byrd.

As for flat out quitting, your boy jack Johnson did it without injury.:hi::hi:
