Vitali went into training BEFORE Lewis, stop with the BS.
Johnson was nearly 50 when he retired in that fight.

He went 7 rounds with a broken arm against younger, stronger ,bigger ,Jim Johnson when he was a fat 35 years old,and saw the fight out to earn a draw

Vitali was 28, 7inches taller ,34lbs heavier and he flat out quit.
Lewis's resume shits all over Vitali's.:hi:

I do agree here. I watched this one a few nights ago, and for me the stoppage was way premature. Yes, Lewis landed a lovely right hand that worried Bowe somewhat, but surely give a standing 8?
I thought Bowe shaded the first round. Not much of a fight to be fair, just a lot of wild flailing from both for the most part but still, I thought the stoppage was premature.

After Vitali destroyed Shannon Briggs, Briggs said that Vitali was the best boxer and power puncher he had ever fought and was better than Lennox Lewis and Foreman.

Agreed. But holding a fragment title and beating mostly second raters with the exception of a few, doesn't make you a dominant champion.

Vitali pounded on him all night but he was there at the end at the age of what 39? Lewis had him out of there in 5rds when he was 27 and dropped him 3 times.:huh

That was Briggs' quote. He should know, he was in the ring with them. Briggs almost knocked Lewis out and landed a lot of hard punches. Briggs didn't land anything clean on Vitali. You saw how bad Shannon's face was after the fight?

It definitely is a poor basis for an argument.

Yes when he was nearing the age of forty and on the comeback trail.. It makes no sense for a washed up fighter to take a guy the distance and claim that the said fighter was better than a man who sparked him in five rounds while prime.. Especially when that man ALSO beat the said fighter once himself.

Again that was Briggs' quote take it or leave it. He fought both and knows what's up.
Shannon displayed much more stamina and heart when he fought Vitali then he did when he fought Lewis. Against Lewis after hurting him very badly in round 1 just completely fell apart.
Vitali put on a boxing masterclass.
