Anthony Joshua is easily the most formidable heavyweight we have ever seen. At 6'6 he towers over the small heavyweights from the past, and at 250 pounds of pure muscle no heavyweight from the past comes close to his physical strength and sheer power.
Not only that he is freakishly fast for his size, has great timing, combination punches, aggression and heart.
Could any heavyweight from the past put up a good fight against the mot talented and perfect heavyweight of all time in Anthony Joshua?

You must be joking, there was a similar guy nearly 6'6 270lbs back in the 1930's named Primo Carnera. Everyone thought, what a killer, til he met a couple a guys named Max Baer and Joe Louis. Joshua is good but still a bit untested, and he did taste the canvas and had his hands full with an old Wladimir Klitschko. I would hold off on the accolades for now, he's not the next coming of Lennox Lewis so far.

Lol Primo Carnera was a strong man turned boxer who took part in fixed fights. Who was slow, plodding and not very skilled. Nothing like Joshua at all, very poor comparison.

Joshua in only 19 fights has a far better win on his resume than Lewis's whole career.

Tyson would fall him, LL would out box him as would other Big fine Boxers like Carl Williams, Joe Bugnar, Ali, Holmes and far too many more that I can't think of right now. and of course other Big Fighters like Foreman and the like.

We really need a system where people have to pass some form of i.q. test before they are allowed to post in the classic forum, at least that way we wouldn't have to endure threads like this one.

I’m not sold on Joshua’s chin, so in my opinion, a lot of the big punchers from the past would have a chance. I don’t see him as invincible by any means...41 year old Vlad almost had him out of there in his last fight. Plus, it’s obvious he has some stamina issues. That said, AJ is a great fighter and probably my favorite current heavyweight to watch...I just think he might be a little overrated at this point in his career. It will be fun to watch how his career plays out; I really wish we could see him fight Tyson Fury at some point.

If Wlad dropped AJ hard and almost KOd him at 41, then other HW punchers throughout history have a good chance to do it, too. It's not like AJ is unhittable.

Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe, Lennox Lewis, I think, would stand a chance

I'm so interested in the history of our sport, and I truly want to learn more. But as a new boy who joined this forum only a few weeks ago, I was worried I would say the wrong things, and garner abuse, but... I think I'm okay now after reading this thread.

Sorry. Only kidding. In all honesty OP (if you're actually not a troll), keep the questions realistic. AJ is unproven. Even if you like the bigger heavyweights, I don't think I have space to list the guys from history who could beat him. The man has a fantastic physique. And good attributes. But we can't compare yet.

Joshua is definitely a formidable fighter.
Despite how early it is in his career, I think we can all sense something special with him.

At this point in his career I think he would lose to most of the top 10 all time HWs.
But once he fully develops, that could change. For better or for worse.
