A still somewhat green Holyfield was pushed to the brink by a wily,crafty Qwai, who had excellent defense and who could burst out of his shell with punches in bunches. It was a thrilling give and take war and may have been the most impressive performance of Holyfield's career.

Tyson was like 50 percent of what he had been in hi prime and folded once Evader took him into deep water.

Conversely, Dwight made Evander go to the well time and again.

He made an 11-fight pro who had only gone eight rounds and who was fighting 15 rounds go to the well in the later rounds, yes. A year later, the well was only four rounds deep.

Nobody feared Evander would DIE against Dwight Qawi.

They did against Tyson.

 

But Tyson was nowhere near his best, either.

The Tyson hype was off the charts when he returned from prison but his form was well below his absolute prime and even 1991.

 

Cooper put Ali down when he was green, Holyfield was in his prime when Cooper put him down. Stop bullshiting. Nobody here said Tyson = Cooper.

That Holyfield was argubly the best CW@190 ever. The other thing is he beat Qawi two times and Tyson one time, the other time was a DQ. The Tyson fight came 5-6 years too late, while at least Qawi came in time, its debatable if Qawi at CW was that worse anyway.
I´ll take that UD15 + KO4 against TKO11 and DQ3.

Um, NO.

Qawi was no longer "prime" when he left light heavyweight. That's when his "prime" ended.

And, frankly, the "shyte" 1996 version of Mike Tyson "obliterates" the 1986 11-fight pro, 186-pound cruiserweight Holyfield who outhustled the slow, chubby Dwight Qawi in 1986.

Mike Tyson in 1996 was a FAR MORE DANGEROUS opponent than Dwight Qawi ever was as a cruiserweight. Ossie Ocasio beat Qawi months later.

Holyfield beating Tyson was one of the biggest upsets in boxing history (#2 on the list all-time).

If Holyfield wasn't the favorite against Qawi, the odds were nowhere near 22-1 against.

 

Did Holyfield look "near his best" against Bowe in 1995 and Czyz in 1996?

When Holyfield looked like he was having a heart attack, and when he was crawling around on the floor against Bowe, and Tyson was beating Bruno and Seldon for their belts, did you think ... "Tyson sucks, Evander's going to knock him out!"

 

There is some serious weight being given to who was the favorite going in or which win was least expected. Those have literally nothing to do with the OP's question. He didn't ask which was the biggest upset... or which had longer odds... He asked which was the better win, and frankly it's not all that close when looking at the bigger picture. Why are we giving any credence to the notion of Tyson's invincibility then, when we now know it was misplaced? It's like giving credit to the earth is the center of the universe people now, even though we know it wasn't true. He wasn't as good as we thought he was, and thus all this nonsense about what we thought going in means little to nothing. The fact is, it was much more impressive to beat Qawi considering the circumstances than Tyson. Yet most people are voting the opposite. Weird.

I was at the Qawi fight and it’s the best fight I’ve ever seen with my own eyes. Qawi kept coming and Holy kept answering and getting stronger.

That said, the Tyson win is more historic but what Evander did against Qawi at that stage of his career was incredible.

Pretty nice when you have both those wins ... and much more ... on your resume.

 

I have a mag somewhere where 3 or 4 out of 4 experts (surprisingly for me) actually picked Holyfield.

 

A very impressive performance ,even now after all these years I don't think there's been a bigger upset in heavyweight s .

 

Douglas - Tyson was even bigger. Great events.

 

Qawi impressed me more,, That fight showed that Evander could hang in there with a tough tough fighter and go 15 rounds and win. Grueling fight.. It hurt watching that fight. The Tyson fight is great, but that was stylistically and really a different fight than we thought just because Mike was overrated at that point and Evander underrated mainly in size-he had become a bigger guy than before and had fought many big guys, bigger than Mike and it showed. Evander was stronger physically than people thought and big enough to push Mike around, so the size was not a factor. Mike did not hit Evander clean.

 

Oh definitely Tyson v Douglas was a lot more of a shock, but I meant to say we've not had anything quite as big since Holy -Tyson.
Lewis v Rahman 1 was unexpected but no where near the scale .Same as Wlad v Sanders.
Everyone i spoke to prior to Tyson Holy said the same ,Tyson was going to destroy him .Holyfield to old and past it etc .So what a absolute upset !Holyfields Rumble in the jungle moment.
