Now I'm not saying his hands are or are not as quick as anyone. I'm just asking how, in light of new footage, people might view his handspeed in comparison to the other champs

(use the definition of champ as someone who was regarded as the best HW in the world, not strictly lineal i.e. byrd)

Holyfield :huh I've never considered him as someone with quick hands but with quick lateral movement and footspeed which allowed him to be somewhat of a giant killer.

    See him at cruiserweight.

Dempsey looked good in sparring but in the ring he often relied on brute strength and pressure to overwhelm opponents. His skills were often left in the training camp.

I might well watch some more of Holy's earlier cruiser days.

I was surprised to see him mentioned up there so I'll give him a deeper look.

Heavyweight Holy of '88-'93 had blistering fast combination punching.

Anyway, Cruiserweight Holy was as much a "Heavyweight" as Dempsey, & he had insane superhuman speed to his combos.

I would say that Tunney was as fast as a prime Dempsey.

thanks, I'm surprised I never considered this as a weapon of Holy before. might have to re-evaluate my H2H ranking of him now

I would not describe him as superhuman but Holyfield sure could put the punches together. Counter-punching suited him better against bigger men though because Holyfield had a tendency to get drawn into slugfests when he started letting his hands go. He wasn't always the most effective with his combinations. Qawi was able to slip a lot of the punches but counter-punches did him in during their rematch.
